"Field Hockey BC was the first time I was able to compete at a high level and it was one of the best experiences I've had. I was able to meet and play with such amazing people from across the province, many that I now have the opportunity to play with or against while playing on the Vikes. My FHBC experiences have shaped me into the person and player I am today. My favourite memory would have to be travelling to Brampton for Nationals in 2016. I definitely would not have gotten to where I am today without my Team BC experience and I am very grateful for the impact it has had on my life." Ashton Aumen played for Team BC in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019 and now plays for the UVic Vikes.

"I really valued the opportunity to play a sport I loved, competitively. I was definitely out of my comfort zone, but in a good way, and being surrounded by friends and teammates in a similar position and who had similar goals motivated me a lot. Playing at the regional/provincial level during high school gave me a small taste for what high level sport is all about, and I knew I wanted to see how far I could get in the sport." Karli Johansen played regionally starting at U14... in 2006 and made her first U16 BC provincial team in 2008. She was FHBC Senior Athlete of the year in 2019 and has been a prominent member of Canada's women's national team for 145 international matches. She also competed for four seasons with the University of Iowa Hawkeyes and started all 21 games in her senior year. She is well-known for being Canada's primary drag flicker on penalty corners! : Emma Van Mol Photos

"I was so lucky to have the opportunity to play provincially because it allowed me to meet so many different people throughout the nation. Some of which I call my best friends and are currently on my UVic Vikes Women's Field Hockey team with me. The BC program not only set me up in the right direction to play for university but it also let me understand what to expect with the high-intensity play, commitment style, and getting to play with joy." Judy Cristante played provincially from 2016 - 2018. She is currently in her third year at UVic playing for the Vikes field hockey team and she "loves every minute of it."

In partnership with SportBC and other sport organizations across British Columbia, Field Hockey BC is involved in the campaign to make the sport community heard during this provincial election. This is why SportBC developed a simple tool that emails candidates directly to ask them where they stand on making sports part of our province’s economic recovery and health. All you need to do is enter your email address and postal code, and the tool will send a letter on your behalf... to the 2020 election candidates in your community. Access: https://sportbc.com/sport-more-important-than-ever/ Sport connects us, sport enhances our physical and mental health, and sport contributes to BC’s economy. We need to be on the policy agenda. Here’s the thing: this will only work if we all pitch in. Once you’ve sent your message to your local candidates, please share with your friends and family on social media. On behalf of the 800,000 British Columbians involved in amateur sportathletes, weekend warriors, kids, tourism operators, and volunteersthank you. - SportBC team FHBC asks the field hockey community to come together on this effort.
