We hope that it has been an optimistic 2021 for all of us so far. And to give more optimism, we give you our new set of #covidheroes Husband and Wife Angeluz and Jay-ar Garcia are both Nurses. These are the words of the individual who nominated them.... They are very dedicated to their work always on overtime to be of service to all their patients. Moreover, they have helped me and my family and other Filipino families who are quarantined in our respective houses. They heroically provided us food and some supplies while we were in quarantine. I was diagnosed Dec 22 so I was quarantined since then with my family as they were also exposed to me. The Garcia family gave us Noche Buena food and other food supply for the next 14 days. They checked on us every day of our health condition and offered all the help they could for us. They deserve to be callled COVID heroes in Calgary. Ross Valencia is one of the many teachers that we know in Calgary. He has adapted to the abrupt changes in delivering education to his students due the school restriction caused by the pandemic. His innovative teaching skill is one of the many qualities we admired him for. The person who nominted him remebered a story: When everybody was lining to enter the gates of heaven, St.Peter asked each one what they contributed on Earth. A Lady said, I’m a Doctor, I heal people. A Gentleman said, I’m an Engineer, I build houses. Another Lady said I’m a Pilot, I take people to thier desitnation. CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS: Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association (CIWA) and Dr. Naomi Lightman of the University of Calgary are conducting research on the COVID-19 pandemic and effects on the livelihoods, health and well-being of immigrant women who work as HCAs in LTC. This study will help policy makers, immigrant-serving organizations, and immigrant LTC workers by raising awareness of the challenges and opportunities immigrant women experience. It will highlight the lived expe...riences of immigrant women HCAs and share their insights as to how to best support front-line care workers during pandemic recovery efforts. The team is inviting immigrant women, who are currently working as Health Care Aides at long-term care facilities in Calgary, to share their story and help make an impact. Fiesta Filipino YYC stand in solidarity with the victims of the typhoon Rolly and typhoon Ulysses to support and alleviate the plight of displaced people. We are requesting for your generosity and help in raising funds by contributing towards flood relief in the Philippines. As you are aware of the havoc caused by the most powerful storms recorded worldwide, typhoon Rolly (international name Goni) and typhoon Ulysses (international name Vamco) which have taken homes from many families and communities in the Philippines. The raised funds will provide typhoon/flood victims food, clothes, medical help and shelter at these challenging times.
