What a great group of hockey players we have again this year. Monday was a such great day.
Covid-19 Guidelines....Please review! 1. No one is allowed in the lobby at any time to watch the ice sessions or visit friends attending camp. Please don't stay in the lobby. Parents must watch from the rink bleachers only. This is the most important guideline. 2. Arrive at your first session, no earlier than 15 minutes before icetime. If you arrive earlier than 15 minutes, please wait in your vehicle until the time permits when you can enter. 3. Depart 15 minutes after t...he final ice session. 4. Have your hockey player get partially dressed at home. Skates can only be tied by 1 parent only, either in the dressing room or on the benches outside the dressing room. 5. Inside the dressing room. Hockey player and 1 parent (guardian) only. No one else permitted. 6. Picking up your hockey player. If you can, one parent picks your hockey player up inside the dressing room. No waiting anywhere in the FLC. Waiting in the vehicle for your child is best. 7. It is recommended that only one parent watches. Unfortunately, it has come to our attention that if people do not practice the above and are being told of the recommendations by the Covid-19 marshall, they will be asked to leave the FLC. Please understand that we must adhere to these guidelines. Your respect and attention to detail on the matter is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, FYS Hockey School
Kind reminder to get dressed in some of your hockey equipment at home prior to your first ice time. We are practicing all Alberta health recommendations. Please dont arrive no more than 15 minutes prior to your first ice time. If you arrive early please wait outside.... Hard work starts tomorrow. Have a great Sunday evening

The City of Medicine Hat is actively reviewing the documents provided by the Government of Alberta as part of the Phase 2 relaunch and will share local opening ...dates as soon as they are determined. The City is excited to welcome the community to these amenities. We ask for your continued patience while we prepare facilities and address staffing considerations and safety protocols. Please note the City has limited ability to respond to individual inquiries related to reopening plans. As reopening plans are finalized, these will be shared with the community and user groups accordingly. Announcements on opening dates will be shared through social media, as well as on the City website: www.medicinehat.ca/covid19 http://www.medicinehat.ca/Home/Components/News/News/4389/30
Stick Length & Flex Are Crucial! Make sure when practicing during this time you are using proper length and flex with your stick. This is a good chart to giv...e you an idea. ESPECIALLY for younger players. Mite-Bantam. You want to develop good habits and good technique that you can build off of. When players are standing in their shoes or skates end of stick should be between players nose and chin area. Youth Players. I encourage players to have a stick they use for off ice training and seperate stick for on-ice training. Different lengths. So their hand positioning and flex remain the same when in shoes & skates. The stick for off ice is a bit shorter than the one they would use if they had skates on. If you purchase a stick take in to consideration if you have to cut a lot off your stick then the flex becomes stiffer. Example you buy a 75 flex for your player and you cut 1.5 inches off now your looking at probably an 80-85 or more flex in your stick. Of if you buy a 75 flex stick and you put an extension in for 1.5 inches now your looking at 70-65 flex or less... Obviously as players develop, get older & stronger certainly you are able to make adjustments as you feel benefit you individually. www.aboveandbeyondhockey.com
We are always asked how players can become a better skater off the ice. Heres a great article reinforcing what we have been teaching.
