Its hot out! ( Im sure you didnt need me to tell you that... but it is) And its also the time of year when many of us are spending more time outside, which means its prime season for getting dehydrated! Its so important for both our physical and mental health that we stay well hydrated.... When its hot and were sweating a lot we need to replenish with more than just water, so today Im sharing my favourite hydrating drink recipe. You can double the batch if youre serving a number of people or if youre going to be outside a lot/really active/wearing a mask all day/already feeling dehydrated. I make this recipe every morning and sip it throughout the morning. If needed Ill make it again later in the day. Thanks to Mona Warner for introducing me to this recipe! Do you have a favourite hydrating drink recipe?! If so wed love to hear it! Feeling. It sounds simple. But are you REALLY feeling? I thought I was, but what I was actually doing was just identifying when something hurt, and when it didnt. I was feeling at two opposite ends with nothing in between.... When I ask clients to feel, sometimes the answer I get is "well I know I should feel ____". But instead of "should", instead of only being aware of two ends of a spectrum, what would happen if we felt into the in between? What would happen if we noticed the grey areas? What would happen if we could notice and feel what was happening and didnt add a value judgement to it? Didnt label it good or bad? If youre interested in playing along, try this . At some point today, take a pause, and notice what you feel. Is there texture? What qualities can you notice in your body? What sensations are present? If youre feeling really adventurous try this while doing a movement. Pick any movement and really explore what you can feel. Notice what changes as you move. This is where the magic happens. The more you can feel, the more you become aware of, the better you can know how and when to intervene. The more power you have to take care of you. And at the end of the day isnt that what its all about? Taking care of you, so you can do, and take care of the things that are most important to you? Have fun with this! Questions? Comments? Leave them below or send us a DM. Ill see you next week! -Tamara #yogatherapy #feelthefeels #burlont #tuesdayswithtamara #movewellfeelwelllivewell

Today were linking some of the movements weve worked on in the last couple of weeks into a standing practice! Enjoy!

Fit For Life Physiotherapy 31.05.2020

Do your hips feel tight?! If they do, this sequence is for you! Supine External Rotation with Strap Moving Butterfly Legs Figure 4 Twists... Standing Leg Rotations When we feel tight, our first instinct is often to stretch. Stretching will for some people help reduce symptoms, but it doesnt help to improve the movement at the joint which can be an underlying reason the tightness comes back. If our leg bones are moving poorly in our pelvis, we might feel tightness, pain, or limited mobility. When we improve the relationship between our leg bones and the pelvis, its amazing how these symptoms can start to resolve! Try it out and let me know how you feel. Questions? Comments? Leave them , send us a DM or email me directly - [email protected] Were back up and running with in person appointments (and continuing virtually too!), so if youre interested in guidance specific to your situation get in touch and we will book you in. Have a great week! -Tamara #fitforlife #kinesiology #therapeuticyoga #physiotherapy #movewellfeelwelllivewell #burlington #hamont #aldershot

Every year as the sun comes out, the temperatures rise and we start to play more outside flip flops become a hot topic! Shoe companies are marketing them to you, some people are telling you theyre the worst things in the world and others sing the praises for free feet! Where do I stand? I love flip flops - for me. Unless Im going on an all terrain hike I live much of the summer months in flip flops and bare feet. But I also recognize that flip flops arent for everyone. The...yre not inherently bad or good - we have to consider context! When guiding clients about footwear I typically consider the following: What activity are they doing? What do they find comfortable? How is their balance/co-ordination/strength/mobility From there, we can look at what will serve them best - is the stability of hiking boot needed or will the freedom of a flip flop do the job? If your footwear (be it flip flop, runner or high heel) is hurting your feet, increasing other symptoms or creating new ones, it might be time to look at some other options. But If what youre wearing feels good, and youre not having any issue - why fix whats not broke . So whether youre ready to bust out the flip flops, or sticking to your runners, almost all of us can benefit from working on the strength and mobility of our lower legs and feet. (Which can in turn have a huge impact on how our footwear feels!). Here are my favourite exercises for happy feet: Ball rolling. Toe lifts. Piano toes. Heel raises and toe raises. Standing on one foot. demos with sitting and standing options in the comments! Dont push into pain, breathe easy, and try to keep the rest of your body relaxed as you move. As youll see Ive got some work to do on those piano toes Try them out and let me know how it goes! Tune in next week - were moving up the chain and exploring some hip movements to complement this lower leg work. #fitforlife #burlington #kinesiology #yogatheraflipflopseasonpy #physiotherapy #movewelllivewell #flipflopseason
