We are in love with our new place value mat. The 45 layout is a popular work in our classroom and this extension adds to the fun.

Today the Bluebell were so deeply engaged in their work that I took a chance and decided to experiment- I turned the music up and began to skip and gallop round and round the tables and mats. Not a sound from these joyful workers - one child sternly shushed me and went back to her puzzle map, another gave me a look of mild annoyance/amusement and then resumed her yoga. Two weeks ago, most of the class would have howled and shouted and joined right in. A normalized class is a sight to behold.

On November 11, people in nations around the world remember the contributions of the veterans of war and conflict. Whether the United States’ Veterans Day, the ...Commonwealth’s Remembrance Day, and other nations’ Armistice Day, today is a day dedicated to honoring the courage and sacrifice of our veterans. At A Mighty Girl, we are marking this day with a special blog post about the contributions of women in wartime. Although women’s roles are rarely mentioned, women have played an important part -- both in the military forces and at home -- in every major conflict, and their efforts deserve recognition. Sharing these books with your children will help you introduce them to many of these women's stories -- from the Rosie the Riveters of WWII stepping into vacated factory positions to the Women’s Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs) to the many women who serve in military forces today. We've also recommended several stories specifically geared towards Mighty Girls who have a parent serving in the military today. So whether on Veterans Day or any time you'd like to honor the contributions of our veterans, consider sitting down with your children with one of these stories in hand. Together, you can explore the tales of the many brave women who should be remembered. Today the Bluebell children observed Remembrance Day by making their own poppies and having meaningful discussions about peace and reflecting on our many blessings. We also thought this was a good week to expand our Peace Education shelf.

Practical Life is the beating heart of the classroom-the zen, the yoga of Montessori. When the calm has been turned upside down, the answer is always, always, always go back to the polishing, the folding, the daily chores that keep the classroom going.
