Fall run is in full swing here at the farm. The summer, though a bit different than others still had its constants - pasture checking, moving cattle, silaging, family time and plenty of cold beers. It has been a busy fall here at the farm attempting to finish harvest, wean calves and a wedding. This past weekend was the absolute BEST as our gorgeous Scarlett Williamson married the equally handsome Robert Gregor Williamson. We are so happy for you both. Finishing up the weaning near home while we were waiting to combine. Hope everyone is back in the fields and getting a move on!

Moving the first group down the road to Garrett’s for weaning. We are impressed with the performance of these calves sired by Arda Cash Flow 63D , KR Tundra 7691 and , Arda Mr Tibbs 322E. The cows spent the breeding season with DMM Glock 94E co owned with Miller Wilson Angus.

Moving the commercial herd to the north pasture with our good dog Cap and Jarrett Davis on his horse Huey. We are fortunate to have an abundance of grass and some old cows that know where they are going.

This is one of our top groups of females with bull calves at side, being kicked out to grass last month. Always a good feeling watching them take those steps onto fresh grass.

Sale day is tomorrow! Young Dale HD 140C has been a top herdsire for us here at Arda. Here are two feature bulls sired by him Arda HD 96F ( Heifer approved) and Arda HD 408F.

Here are two yearlings by Arda Vindicated 70D, a home raised herd sire by Bar-E-L Vindicated 109B. These are more moderate framed bulls, with lots of length, and excellent foot structure.

It’s really happening, the weather is warming up! Time to feature some Freeway two year old bulls. These are two of my favourites, power and shape, definite cow bulls and real herd sire prospects.

It’s much easier to supervise the bull clipping crew from high ground. We are well on our way to getting all of the yearlings and two year olds clipped, as well as our 10 select purebred replacement heifers. Then it’s picturing time. Jarrett and I really look forward to this special bonding time in our marriage ( sense the sarcasm).

We are settling into life back at home after the Canadian Western Agribition. We are so pleased with how our cattle did there and honoured to show and spend the week with some of the best in the industry in all different breeds. Arda Mr Tibbs 322E aka Crush was the 2018 Black Angus Reserve Champion junior bull. We love how this yearling is put together, the bloodlines he carries, and look forward to his first set of calves this spring. Arda Mr Tibbs 322E aka Crush. This guy will be off to Regina this week after a small break from Farmfair, with 4 other head from Arda Farms and Freeway Angus. Crush was also shown last year as a pair with his dam Arda Girl Crush 90B. Thank you to the dream team for making this guy look his best.

Bringing the last of the stragglers home from our commercial cows out in the Sundre area. These are the days we are thankful for good help, great dogs and a bush savvy horse. These old girls really try to avoid capture on a nice day like this.

Arda Farms Ltd. was proud to be awarded the 2018 Purebred Breeder of the Year from the Alberta Angus Association. ARDA Farms has proudly been raising purebred Black Angus cattle for three generations. Art Davis formed ARDA - Arthur Ray Davis Angus, and became a member of the Canadian Angus Association in 1948. He started his herd with just ten head of cattle and slowly grew from there. His full involvement with the purebred industry started in 1972 when his son Jay join...ed him in his endeavours. Art had the forethought to stay a member all of those years prior to Jay joining him, knowing that his son would have the dedication and passion to build the herd to what it is today. The late Fred Noad, who was a long time member of the Alberta Angus Association and breeder, approached Jay to start a bull sale with him. For just under ten years they successfully ran the Freeway Angus / Arda Farms bull sale, held in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. Jay then decided to branch out on his own having a bull sale in High River for two years. He finally moved the sale home to Arda Farms in Acme, Alberta. They have just held their 21st Annual sale here at home. On the 13th Annual sale, the third generation of purebred Angus breeders, Garrett Davis and Jarrett Davis joined in, with their purchase of Freeway Angus from Fred and Maxine Noad. They have been running their herd for eight years as well as being dedicated towards the Arda Farms breeding program which now runs close to 1000 head of cattle, continuing what was started with a mere 10 head in 1948. Jay, Lenore and family would like to thank the Alberta Angus Association for being recognized for this award. Jay enjoyed serving his six years on the board and looks forward to the future of this breed and his farm, with the up and coming fourth generation of Arda Farms and Freeway Angus.

Our last animal we have to feature is HAF Queen Eva 6034 that Freeway Angus purchased from Hoffman Angus. She is now co owned with Samantha Boake and was shown in the junior shows all year. We are so proud of Samantha with this being her first year of showing , "Chocolate" and her made quite the team. They will be showing together tomorrow in their last show of the year at Farmfair 2017.

We have had a chance to picture a few cows this summer and thought we should share our matriarch Arda Gammer 192P. With several top selling bull calves in our sale through the years, and top producing females including Arda Girl Crush 90B ( our mature cow we are showing this fall). You can't deny this cows depth, perfect foot and udder, at 13 years old this cow deserves a shout out! We flushed her last year getting some great bull and heifer calves, and have flushed her again this year.

We would just like to thank all of the bidders and buyers at our 20th bull sale. A big thank you to everyone who helped out prior to and during sale day. We are already looking forward to next year's sale and are excited about the calf crop hitting the ground.
