After an ABI, your brain is focused on healing and stabilization. Any stimulation could cause overstimulation leading to irritation, angry outbursts, and mood swings. Try to remain patient with yourself. If you're comfortable with it, ask a family member to monitor your behaviour. They might pick up on cues that you did not notice, and they can tactfully remind you to take care of yourself. If you or a loved one is struggling with behaviour and/or emotional changes, contact us. | genesiscommunityrehab.com
Following a trauma to the head, it is not uncommon for individuals to experience changes. Someone who used to be outgoing does not want to go out or declines to visit with friends. There are many reasons why they might be avoiding social outings, including: increased fatigue, difficulty following conversations and word-finding issues. Overstimulation from noise and light can also contribute. Simply ask how you can help and keep in mind, these are not permanent personality trait changes. If you or your loved one struggles with behaviour and emotional changes, we can help. Visit genesiscommunityrehab.com
Today is #EarthDay, an important opportunity to raise awareness about climate change, global warming, and the damage that has been caused in nature. Let’s use this day to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Every little action counts! Reduce, reuse, and recycle, use less water, plant a tree. Educate yourself and the next generation about what you can do to contribute to positive change. Together, we can protect our HOME.

Identifying your triggers could help you better manage your mood changes. For instance, try to observe what you feel immediately before an angry outburst or before you get overwhelmed. Understanding what triggers inappropriate behaviour or emotional responses will help you learn how to avoid those triggers. If you or your loved one struggles with behaviour and emotional changes, contact us. We are here for you.| www.Genesiscommunityrehab.com
Develop a plan of action for times when you are feeling overwhelmed. For instance, move to a quiet room for a few minutes, or take a few deep breaths, close your eyes and purposefully disengage from your current activity for a moment. Try a meditation app to help you calm. Remember, if you or a loved one struggles with behaviour and emotional changes, we can help. Contact us!| genesiscommunityrehab.com

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), one in 160 children has an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Worldwide people with ASD are often subject to stigma, discrimination and human rights violations. That’s why in April we recognize #WorldAutismMonth to spread a message of understanding and acceptance. Visit www.autismspeaks.ca for more information and resources about Autism and ways to support. =)
