The Sunshine Room found some sap coming from a tree in the community. Children participating in nature can help create sustainable futures. Through this spontaneous natural find, they were able to make connections between raw materials and finished products and raise questions about causes while undertaking first-hand investigations.

OSC completed a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) activity where children built towers out of cups. They measured their towers to see who could create the tallest one and recorded them for everyone to see. The oldest child in the room acted as a leader with measuring and recording alongside the Educators. "Education is no longer about memorizing facts. Instead it is about learning how to think critically and evaluate information. How to apply knowledge, research and skills to problem solve."

The OSC found an ASL sign at Grovenor park. They practiced the alphabet and signed their names. Did you know Grovenor park is an accessible park through the city of Edmonton. Accessible parks encourage diversity and use by all members of the community.
