The dangers of pot holes! Every spring the pot holes will rear their ugly head... and the drivers pay the price. Did you know that Calgary's team fill about 700 potholes a week? It may not feel like they are working hard on the issue but that is quite an accomplishment!... What is a pot hole (see attachment). A pot hole forms when snow and water seep into the spaces and soil beneath the paved surface. They can freeze and expand. Then when they melt in the spring they cause a void and the pavement can cave with the weight of a vehicle, causing a pot hole. As you can tell, they emerge in the spring. Potential damage Large potholes can affect the mechanics of your car! But a common problem with potholes is what they do to your tires and rims. Some damage is cosmetic - a scrape, a scratch or a bent rim. Some other damage is more severe. A pot hole can cause a flat or the impact can damage the interior lining of the tire resulting in a bulge or bubble. That tire is not safe to drive on and needs to be replaced. What makes it worse - high temperatures - low tire pressure - low profile tires - large potholes - heavy loads What can you do? 1- Report the pot hole https://calgary-csrprodcwi.motorolasolutions.com//SRIntake 2 - Maintain correct tire pressure Check your owners manual or door placard to identify the correct tire pressure. 3 - Inspect your tires You may not even know that you had hit a pot hole or a curb. Inspect regularly! see more here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=4&v=GtqpUaRbqQU
