To modernize how we communicate with residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, we are taking further steps to enhance the gov.nl.ca website and ensure information is easily accessible. The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has transformed the way services are delivered online. Through Digital Government with MyGovNL, online services for residents and businesses are now easier to access. This year, the world has experienced a digital transformation with the COVID-19 pand...emic. The timing is right to rethink how information is delivered. Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are known for their natural storytelling and genuine interest in their communities. What better way to expand on how we communicate with residents than share stories from around our province. Over the coming months, a variety of features told through text, visual imagery and video will be introduced to further enhance and modernize the way we communicate. Keep up to date with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador by visiting gov.nl.ca

Here is a summary of what Dr. Fitzgerald shared on her Twitter account this afternoon. (www.twitter.com/CMOH_NL) Last week, during the #GovNL COVID-19 update, she was asked if people in Grand Bank should be extra careful and avoid gatherings. In the attached video, is her response. Look, the reality is life is not normal right now, and we ALL must take COVID-19 seriously, no matter where you live in the province.... No one wants to see a COVID-19 outbreak that forces us to return to what life was like in March/April when this pandemic began. While we are close to a vaccine, it will still be many months before we’re rolling up our sleeves. For now, it is on all of us to take public health advice seriously. This means everybody, in every community, all of the time." With thousands of new COVID-19 cases across Canada every day, it’s critical that people arriving into the province follow the self-isolation rules laid out for them.

This afternoon, #GovNL Deputy Premier and Minister or Finance, Siobhan Coady announced changes to the discount rates for craft breweries. These changes were approved by the NLC Board of Directors and announced as part of #NLBudget2020. They were made in response to feedback from craft brewers, and will save the industry more than $1 million annually. Another change includes the removal of any distinction between product sold on premise at a brewery or in NLC Liquor Stores, N...LC Liquor Express locations or convenience stores. This change ensures that brewers receive the same revenue for products they sell, regardless of location. The craft brewing industry holds exciting potential for new entrepreneurs and consumers in urban and rural areas across our province. The changes we are detailing today will keep another $1.1 million dollars in the industry each year, allowing them to invest in expanding their market presence or product offerings and creating new jobs. Honourable Siobhan Coady Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance The craft brewing industry in the province is an important partner of ours. Craft brewers are small businesses, with many only having entered the market in the past three to five years. They are a key element of the province’s tourism strategy, provide important employment and economic activity in their towns and cities, and cover all parts of the province, from Bay Roberts to Twillingate, Cormack and Labrador City. We look forward to continuing to partner with the industry and working with government to support the province’s broader economic goals. Bruce Keating President and CEO, NLC "The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has chosen to support local today. This is the major step in the right direction for support of the Craft Brewing Industry in Newfoundland and Labrador. It will lead to more locally produced beer and more jobs across the province. The Newfoundland and Labrador Craft Brewing Industry thanks government for the measures announced today." To help ease the financial pressures on families, especially on women, #NLBudget2020 will provide $25 a day child care beginning in January, 2021. The Honourable Andrew Furey, Premier of NL, was joined today by the Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Education, and the Honourable Siobhan Coady, Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance, at New Dimensions Child Care Centre in St. John’s to provide details on the initiative. More affordable child care allows more parents into the... workplace, helps grow the economy, and helps ensure children receive the early learning, care and positive experiences that will benefit their lifelong learning. The program will be delivered through the already established Operating Grant Program. Regulated child care services that participate in the program are provided a grant to offset the reduced fees they charge families. That grant amount will be increased to allow them to reduce their fees further and charge just $25 a day. As part of the $25 a day child care program, the Operating Grant Program is being extended to regulated Family Child Care Homes. The department encourages those regulated centres that currently do not participate in the program to register, as well as unregulated providers that may wish to become regulated and join the Operating Grant Program. Information on how to register for the Program can be found here: gov.nl.ca/education/childcare/operating/ Budget 2020 provides $3 million for the current fiscal year, with a $12 million annual investment going forward to support this initiative.
