Have you seen the snow monkeys ? Since making the front page of LIFE magazine in 1970, these monkeys, who bathe in the hot springs in the area, have become one of the biggest attractions for tourists. More pictures: https://greathikesjapan.com/shinetsu-tr/photo/cultural.html

One of its attractions of the Tokaido Shinkansen is that you can see the dynamic Mt. Fuji from the train window. The seat of Tokaido Shinkansen where you can see Mt. Fuji is the E seat (window side) for both directions from Shin-Osaka to Tokyo and from Tokyo to Shin-Osaka. Seat A is also on the window side, but here you cannot see Mt. Fuji because this is on the sea side. There are many sections where you can see Mt. Fuji by the Shinkansen, but one of the best sections is in Fuji city. If the weather was good, you could see the great view of Mt Fuji!

We were supposed to be meeting up with our guests in Morioka and headed into one of the most beautiful places in Japan for a hike. It would have been such a wonderful fall color hiking. I believe that we made a right decision for our guests, our staff and those who were supporting us from Japan for safety. During this difficult and challenging time for everyone, we truly believe that travelling to Japan will be possible again, we just do not know when and it is still too early to say anything but, let's hope that will happen and we will make sure that all the tours in the fall of 2021 will be scheduled and release to public sometime soon! Hiking is the best way to practice social distancing while you enjoy mountains and nature(^^)

Shime Saba (vinegered and salted Mackerel Sushi) was born through Japanese ancient history. Saba Kaido (Mackerel Highway) connects the fishing town betweenObama and Kyoto (ancient capital city). In ancient times, Saba (Mackerel) was transported on foot. Transporters did an excellent job walking and half running mountain roads for 72 kilometers within 24 hours. Before heading to Kyoto, mackerel was marinated in salt avoiding them to be rotted. By the time the fish is del...ivered, the taste of marination gets perfect. This history of transportation gave Shime Saba a life. The dish has become a signature of the region since then. If you would like to learn more about the region and history, this video tells us more story. https://youtu.be/yzxr9QVsULQ
