The Meaning of Home writing contest is back! We interviewed Alice, a contest runner-up from Comox whose entry resulted in a $10,000 donation to our local build project. Watch to find out why she thinks students and teachers should get involved. What is the Meaning of Home? Students in Grades 4, 5 and 6 can write a poem or essay about what home means to them for the chance to win a $30,000 grant for Habitat Vancouver Island North! That’s not all for every submission, $10 will also be donated to our local Habitat. For more details, visit www.meaningofhome.ca

We are truly grateful for the support from our community partners like Thrifty Foods who donated $200 towards snacks for our volunteers. Future homeowner Lori-Dawn stands inside her future home with some of the donated treats. Thanks Thrifty Foods!

We had the opportunity to be the decorating elves for CR Lawyers who sponsored a tree in the Campbell River Museum's annual Festival of Trees. We decorated the tree with the theme The Meaning of Home. Our favourite ornaments come from the children of future Habitat homeowners, who each wrote about what home means to them. Be sure to indulge in this wonderful tradition, one of the few that may remain in this strange year: https://www.facebook.com/events/741803440015619/

Artsphere Comox Valley is selling art mats this year as a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity! This group of Comox Valley artists has raised thousands of dollars for various charities over the years. Normally, they would have a sale with live music and refreshments, but in order to keep everyone safe this year, they are offering an online gallery where you can peruse and purchase at your leisure. The art mats are all varnished for protection, and can be either picked up in R...oyston or shipped via Canada Post. Learn more and purchase now: https://www.artspherecomoxvalley.org/

This is an exciting time on our 477 Hilchey Road build site in Campbell River. The drywall is complete and the walls are prepped with a primer ready for a fresh coat of paint. It's at this stage that the houses start to take on a homey feeling as homeowner families personalize their homes with their own choice of paint colour, vinyl floor colour, and kitchen countertop finish. We have three homes to paint over the coming weeks so if you like to paint, we could use the help. Safety protocols are in place and spots are limited, so please contact us at [email protected] to reserve your volunteer shift as soon as possible. #crbuildsit
