Another day, another new technology. We are once again the first clinic in Atlantic Canada to use these lenses. These are monofocal lenses made with new material but what’s equally exciting is the way they get implanted. You can watch a short video in the next post. #gaspowered #CO2

Today’s lens is called Eyhance. It is an enhanced monofocal that offers intermediate Vision. Where as traditional monofocals only offer distance vision. ... #eyhance #enhancedmonofocal #eyesurgery

Another first in Atlantic Canada for Dr. Belliveau and HVSC. As industry leaders, we continue to be awarded the opportunity to be among the first to utilize new and proven technologies. Today’s presbyopia correcting lens technology is the Alcon Vivity, which enables high-quality vision at far and intermediate ranges as well as functional up-close vision in bright and dim light. The Vivity design provides minimal low light visual disturbances (starbursts, halos and glare), which is comparable to a monofocal lens. The large range of high-quality vision and minimal night vision issues will make Vivity a welcome addition at HVSC. #vivavivity

Today was another exciting day for Dr. Dan Belliveau and Halifax Vision Surgical Centre. We are pleased to say that we are the first centre in Atlantic Canada to implant these newly released intraocular lenses. As new and proven technologies are approved by Health Canada, our goal is to adopt these technologies immediately to personalize the lens choice based on the thorough evaluation of patient needs, wants and desired outcome. #cataracts #eyesurgery #newtechnology #continuousrangeofvision

Our day to day is starting to resemble pre-pandemic days, but during the shutdown we had a little more time on our hands and put together a little playlist. What are your favorite eye, vision or sight themed songs? https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7mGBP946JFME8wjq9R1ws3

As we look to re-open our office, we feel it necessary to share some of the changes we will be implementing during this COVID-19 era to ensure everyone's safety during this unprecedented time. 1. All clients MUST wear a mask when entering the office, no exceptions. We recommend bringing your own but we will have some available should you forget yours. You must wear your mask the entire time you are in the office. 2. A quick infrared temperature check will be performed upon ar...rival. 3. Hand sanitizer will be readily available and we will ask you to wash your hands prior to getting started with your appointment. 4. To limit the number of patients in the office, we ask that you attend your appointment alone. We will make exceptions in certain circumstances if need be. 5. Any paperwork (especially for new patients) will be sent via email and must be returned via email/mail prior to your appointment. 6. If you have travelled out of province, we ask you to wait a minimum of 14 days before booking an appointment. If you have been in contact with someone who has travelled, we ask you to do the same, wait 14 days after contact. 7. If you have any of the following symptoms: new or worsening cough, fever greater than 38 degrees Celcius, sore throat, headache, runny nose, or shortness of breath, we ask you cancel your appointment and contact 811. 8. Clients will be asked to call upon arrival and wait in their vehicles until we text/call/email you to confirm you may come in. This is to stop any unnecessary contact with other patients, and to keep our waiting area clear. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

July is UV Protection month, Below is an excerpt from the American Academy of Ophthalmology: "Studies show that long-term exposure to bright sunlight may increase the risk of cataracts and growths on the eye, including cancer. UV rays reflected off sand and water can cause eyes to sunburn, potentially resulting in temporary blindness in just a few hours. In support of UV Safety Month this July, the American Academy of Ophthalmology reminds the public of the importance of shielding eyes from the sun's harmful rays with 100% UV-blocking sunglasses and broad-brimmed hats".

When he is not seeing patients or doing surgery, Dr. Dan Belliveau indulges in a little relaxation. You can see him here enjoying his 12 minute heat and eye massage with our newest addition of the Lipiflow system. If you suffer from dry eyes, a quick scan of the meibomian glands will help us determine if this treatment will be beneficial to you. The meibomian glands are found along the inside of the eyelids and they secrete oils to prevent evaporation of the eye’s tear film. ... The goal of the scan is to assess the structure of your glands and to see if there are signs of blockage. We can also assess how well (or poorly) your glands are functioning through a quick examination under the microscope. If your glands are not producing enough oils due to blockage or the right type of oils, you may want to consider the Lipiflow treatment. Most people will find some relief from just one session. Find out if it’s right for you. We’d love to hear from you.

Next month the list of procedures offered at the HVSC will expand as we will be offering cosmetic eyelid surgery.
