We have had solar panels on our roof for 7 years, and I've always wondered why they are not required on all new builds in 2021? Sure, it's not cheap, but it's far cheaper to design and build with them in mind then retrofit like we did, plus you save on future roofing costs. Panel costs have dropped almost 20% since we bought ours and new panels are 20% more efficient then those installed on our roof. Solar is not as "green" as wind power, but it can be installed faster and on more sites with far fewer complications. If we did this on all new subdivisions, we could solve all of our power needs.
Denying the right to rep are makes sense when the device is under full warranty, but after that, it’s restraint of trade and a clear monopoly.
It’s a start, but affordable Internet will always be a dream in the nation so big and a population so small.
This is very cool technology, and not just because it's got that whole Iron Man/Tony Stark thing going, but because this is real world stuff that is available to be installed TODAY!! These present installs are made for small cities, but are scalable in both directions, and that is a very big deal...
Cassette tapes changed EVERYTHING when it came to music, but never forget that in the late 1970's and early 80's, cassette tapes were also used for computer programs and data storage. Luckily they were replaced, in computers anyway, with higher capacity and much faster floppy disk technology, they stuck around in cars as an option until the early 2000's!
They were a crazy powerful (and expensive!!) beast in their day, but Apple has decided that their day is done, but I've seen lots of 10 year old Macs working just fine, we have 3 pre-2012 units in our home!
We have 4 desktop units going out this morning and we are well over 100 devices in the community since March. That's 100 youth and their families with the technology they otherwise would not have, and that same number over devices that will be used and kept out of the landfill, and thats a big win on both counts.
Due to the very generous nature of some of our corporate patrons, two older MacBook Pro’s came into our possession. Thankfully, the internet provided a way to upgrade them to run a new MAC system called High Sierra, and should make them compatible with e-learning and other virtual classes! If you have any Mac hardware 2010 or newer, please consider us!
A big shout out to our new friend Gerry from St Catherines, his generosity of spirit and support for our cause has directed him to donate 25 Wi-Fi adaptors for our desktop units, now enabling them to become Wi-Fi capable! A big shout out to everyone for their support so far, if anyone has some new keyboard and mouse sets to donate , we are still disbursing units every week!
Thank you Children's Aid Foundation of Halton for the recognition. It’s an honour to be able to help the youth you support. #NoOneLeftBehind #onlinelearning
As much as I like to rail against the incredibly high internet and cell phone bills we have in Canada, (compared to the rest of the world), I can honestly say that my internet and cable has not been down once during the pandemic, and that a good thing. Glad to see that Cogeco - Ontario isn't cutting folks off who have lost their jobs and deferring late payments.
This made our day!
