Today we take the time to remember those who have served and honoured those who are actively serving our great country. This is not just another day off please take the time at 11:00 am to pause for a minute of silence and reflection for those who made the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy the life and freedoms we have. We will be closed for November 11 but will reopen at 9 am on Thursday Nov 12, 2020.

We cannot let Vet Tech month pass by without giving a shout out to our fabulous Vet Techs Aileen, Emilee, Sheena and Nicole. They have been rock stars during these crazy times and this is a great nod to what Vet Techs do for all of us. If you’ve ever needed a vet, you’ve needed a vet tech. Your vet tech performed chest compressions when your pet’s heart stopped. Your tech noticed that your pet was unstable and prioritized their treatment. Your tech administered a life-saving... blood transfusion to your pet and watched them for an adverse reaction. Your tech got one of the good beds for your arthritic pet. Your tech offered different foods to your pet and noted their favourite for next time. Your tech showered your pet in affection when you couldn’t be there for the euthanasia. Your tech got your pet an extra blanket when they looked cold overnight. Your tech carried your paralysed pet outside for some fresh air. Your tech noticed the start of a seizure and gave your pet their emergency medicine. Your tech gently washed your pet when they soiled themselves in-hospital and said something like It happens to the best of us. Your tech checked your vet’s math before giving medication. Your tech monitored your pet meticulously while under anaesthesia. Your tech was the last face your pet saw before surgery and the first face they saw when they woke up. Your tech snuck your pet a snack between meals when they seemed hungry. Your tech remembered to approach your pet from the left because they’re blind on the right. Your tech consulted with your vet when your pet seemed anxious. Your tech celebrated your pet’s birthday in-hospital. Your tech supported your pet as they learned to walk on only three legs. Your tech showed immense patience to your rescued pet who has trust issues. Your tech added helpful tips to the discharge instructions and answered your medication questions. Your tech talked to your pet like they’re a person. Your tech praised your pet and gave them treats to make vaccinations less scary. Your tech tolerated your questions about when they’re going to become a vet. That’s not the goal, Linda. Let it go. Your tech informed the laboratory of your pet’s history so they can assess the blood sample accordingly. Your tech kept your pet safe and comfortable during their diagnostic imaging. Your tech does thousands of other things we can’t even think of because we take them for granted. Your tech is your pet’s guardian angel. Please show them some love and appreciation this week and always. Happy Vet Tech Appreciation Week See more

As of midnight on October 8, 2020 masks will be required for all indoor endeavours, this includes businesses where employees and the public interact. Although the majority of people coming into the Clinic have been wearing a mask, we will now be requiring all people coming into the Clinic to wear a mask. We will continue not permitting more than one person into the building and not allowing owners into the examination room. Exceptions are given in cases of euthanasia where w...e are allowing two people into the room. We are working hard to provide everyone with prompt service but sometimes this is not possible. If you call and get our message (we know it happens a lot as we are very busy) please leave a message and we will get back to you as quickly as possible. Speak slowly and say your name and phone number clearly and keep your message as brief as needed. Pre-paying by credit card over the phone helps us to provide you with the fastest possible service so we can simply run your product out to your car. If we have seen your pet and you are calling with an update please leave a message if possible. If you are speaking to one of our technicians you can rest assured that they will pass any message onto Drs. Malone and MacGowan. If you truly need to speak to one of the Vets understand that you will need to be patient it may be several hours before they will be able to call you. After saying all of that we want to say THANK YOU FOR BEING SO PATIENT. We are very aware that many people are having to wait in their cars passed their scheduled appointment time- for that we say thank you for your understanding that some appointments end up taking much longer than expected. May you all have the best Thanksgiving under these very trying times. See more

It is hard for many people to think that there can be a good euthanasia but today we experienced a beautiful passing. Dr. MacGowan and Sheena went out to one of our very longstanding client's homes to euthanize their American Eskimo dog that had been recently diagnosed with cancer. Dr. MacGowan has been to their home every year to vaccinate their brood of fur babies and, when needed, to help a friend in need to pass on. Today was especially emotional as this was a dog bro...ught into their lives at a time of need and he was a stable companion being there for them over the years. We recently diagnosed him with cancer and they have been caring for him and loving him to the end. It is never easy to know when it is the right time but when he was uwilling/unable to join his Dad on their favourite walk they knew. So on his favourite walking path in the beautiful fall sun with his Dad by his side he crossed over the rainbow bridge to join their other furbabies that had crossed over the years. It is the hardest decision we ever have to make for our pets but, if we are lucky enough to be able to have time to plan, it can be a peaceful and dare I say beautiful experience. Losing our furbabies is inevitable but being able to set the stage so to speak can be empowering and full of love. As our illustrious Queen said " Grief is the price we pay for Love" See more

The table is set and the games are ready. Tonight Drs Malone and MacGowan get to spoil the staff at our annual summer party. They are all amazing and they have been even more amazing as we move through the pandemic.

Our fabulous staff are continuing to work hard to make your experience during this difficult time as positive as possible. We are so proud of them and our clients for being so understanding - it doesn't all run smoothly or on time. One thing that makes everything frustrating and difficult is when people book an appointment and fail to show up and not call to let us know. We are currently booking routine appointments at least a week and a half out so when we have 3 or 4 no s...hows in one day it is sad to think that we have had to turn someone else away. We all know cats go MIA when the kennels comes out and that there can be family emergencies or car problems. Please if you are unable to make your appointment call us as soon as you are aware of the problem. We are truly all in this together and together we will all make the best of it. Thank you for all your understanding - we appreciate all of you. See more

Please make an appointment with your vet to bring your pets up to date on their rabies vaccination. Even our indoor cats can be at risk should a bat enter your home. Most dogs and cats receive a 3 year rabies vaccine but you should call your vet and verify when your pet is due for a booster. If you can;t remember the last time they were vaccinated or you do not have that information you should err on the side of caution and have them boostered. If your pet has a known run in with a wild animal, including a porcupine, your pet should have a rabies booster. There is no cure for rabies and in the case of rabies from any animal other than a bat it is zoonotic meaning it can be passed from animals to humans through a bite.
