Strong women. May we know them, may we be them and may we raise them. Having a daughter brings a whole new meaning to me for international women's day this year. She will grow up in this world where she will be fierce, she will fight for herself and others, she will be kind, compassionate and gentle but strong, aggressive and powerful because I will teach her all of these things. When I had my baby I had tears of joy everyday to see the overwhelming support, messages, gifts..., food, love and compassion I received from clients, sales reps, builders and friends. Then I also saw the raw side and lost a few jobs because I couldn't make it to a site measure 2 weeks after I had her, had people demanding I get back to them in 24 hours or less, all while I had prepped them on their jobs and notified everyone well in advance that I would not be free for 2 months and my office could handle any requests they had. I had people say "you never told me you were having a baby, we don't know if we want to continue with your firm" And let's just say, if I were a man, I would NEVER have to tell someone I was having a baby. Needless to say I smiled as I let those jobs go because no amount of work or money in this world will come before my daughter. In this world, as a women in business, you have to know what's important to you, what your boundaries are and what you will and won't put up with. And now, I am not the only boss in this company. The real boss has arrived. And she will be raised to know that she should always put the work into herself first and make sure she is happy before pleasing others. She will respect everyone and they will respect her because she will be raised to use her voice for good. Raise your daughters to be the strong, powerful, compassionate, gentle beings that the world needs.
