The sun strikes again! Last week I had my annual check up at the dermatologist and he identified two spots of actinic keratosis on my face. These spots were red and flaky and had been on my cheek for months without going away. They are considered pre-cancerous, but don't always develop into skin cancers. He used liquid nitrogen to freeze them to death (bah ha ha!) When he told me they were caused by sun damage I protested "But I wear sunscreen every day!", to which he replied..., "That's great, but did you when you were 7???" Sigh. He got me there, and reminded me again to always wear sunscreen, EVEN ON CLOUDY DAYS. Of course, because I'm fair skinned, have blue eyes, freckles, am over 40 and have had melanoma I'm in a high-risk category BUT this is a good reminder for everyone to protect their skin! In wintertime it's tempting to set the SPF aside, but believe me, your skin still needs it :) https://dermatology.ca/public-patie/skin/actinic-keratoses/
