Let’s do another Facebook Challenge. We’ll call it the COVID Challenge. Send a picture of any mat you completed during COVID to [email protected] Don’t forget to give me the story behind your mat, this is most important. There will be no limit on number of submissions, no limit on size, no limit on subject....we are freeing ourselves from limits! I will begin posting the pictures on Facebook as soon as I get a dozen or so participants. ... There will be one ballot per mat submitted with a random draw on May 27 of a grand prize to be determined (rest assured it will not be a trip out of the province, lol). If we are meeting again by this time we will have an in person, show and tell. If you know a HRHG member who does not use Facebook or e-mail please let them know about this fun challenge. You could offer to take a picture of their mat(s) or they could snail mail me their pictures to: 374 Albert St. Fredericton, NB, E3B 2B6

Gallery On Queen is pleased to present an exhibition of works by Janice Wright Cheney and Maja Padrov. Opening November 20 @5pm, the work will be displayed at ...the gallery and available for viewing while following Covid-19 safety protocol. Janice Wright Cheney’s textile-based sculptures and installations explore the human-nature relationship. They consider the fragility of the present state, examine the loss of wilderness, and imagine ecological life in the future. Her works have been exhibited both nationally and internationally. Widow, her iconic sculpture of a grizzly bear swathed in roses, appeared in Oh Canada, a survey of contemporary Canadian art, held at MASS MoCA, North Adams, MA in 2012. Her solo exhibition Cellar was presented at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery (2012), the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (2014), and at Southern Alberta Art Gallery in Lethbridge (2015). Spectre, a polar bear made of suspended crocheted snowflakes, was included in the exhibition Aiviq and Nanuq: The Walrus and the Polar Bear, at the Anchorage Museum in Alaska (2018) and her most recent project, The Lucivee, appeared in the Fairy Tails exhibition curated by Anne Koval at the Owens Art Gallery, Sackville NB (2020). Wright Cheney has been elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and is a recipient of the Strathbutler Award for Excellence in the Arts, as well as the New Brunswick Lieutenant Governor's Award for High Achievement in Visual Arts. Her work is represented in the collections of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, the New Brunswick Museum, the New Brunswick Provincial Art Bank, the Glenbow Museum as well as Telus Canada at Telus Garden, Vancouver. Janice Wright Cheney graduated from Mount Allison University with a B.F.A. in 1983, and completed an M.Ed. in Critical Studies at the University of New Brunswick in 2003. THE DAILY CATCH- this has gone through a number of changes! But so much fun. I lived in Newfoundland for 10 years and my husband is from St Anthony. While I hoo...ked this Cod mat as a wedding present, my husband was telling me stories about how no two cod jiggers are the same, his Uncle Albert had the mold and would pour molten lead into it to make the jiggers. How he as a young kid he would hang out on the wharf with carnation tins and gather cod tongues to sell in town.A carnation tin of tongues was a pound and he sold them for $1 a tin. And how his picture was in the paper because he caught a fish as big as him( it’s true I’ve seen it) This Mat was made with much love for his cousin who lived right across the road. It’s truly a story mat. See more

We just can't get enough of these beautiful hooked rugs! We have seen a definite serge in the rug hooking art! This stunning rug was traditionally hooked on Sc...ottish even weave by Julie Mosgrove from Corner Brook ,NL. Julie is a self taught hooker and has been hooking since 2008. The design was not a kit it was hand drawn for Julie. Thank you Julie for choosing B&L yarns for 99% of your project we love it!! See more
