Great to see the window preservation project coming along, with just 5 of the 26 windows still requiring sponsorship. If you are interested in assisting the project, please contact Mary at 250 946 6344 or Anne at 250 423 1344.

We applaud Rossland for all the tremendous work being undertaken with their new heritage strategy. Wonderful to see heritage continue to flourish in the West Kootenays! Heritage is important to Rossland’s economic, cultural and social growth, and sustainability. It should be recognized as the heart of the city’s character and be given serious consideration in planning and decision-making, said the consultants in a statement. Reinforcing Rossland’s culture of heritage conse...rvation means that the general community understands and embraces heritage awareness and conservation of historic places as part of the city’s identity, strength, and prosperity. The consultants said creating a permanent tourism information centre in a heritage building downtown, creating a new heritage program website, establishing a heritage conservation area in the city’s downtown and re-establishing a new heritage advisory commission with greater powers are other key goals in the plan. https://www.trailtimes.ca//new-position-visitor-centre-pa/ https://rossland.civicweb.net/document/7054

We define decades past by historical events, fashion trends, music styleshere on Living Room, we also let colour palettes and interior design trends remind us of days gone by. The colour choices of the past may seem questionable to us today like the vibrant, psychedelic colours of the ‘60s or the underwhelming shades from the ‘40sbut it’s important to remember every decade had its own distinct characteristics, defined by the cultural and social landscape of the time. And colour played a big part in that. With that in mind, let’s look at the most popular colour palettes for homes from the 1920s to the 1960s.

L ~ a material we don’t see much of today unfortunately, but why? A 1950’s staple in every mid-century home, it came in a multitude of prints and pattern...s in every colour imaginable. Made from solidified linseed oil, ground cork, pine resin, and wood flour, it is extremely durable. And in my opinion, beautiful! First invented in 1855 by Englishman Frederick Walton, who then had the process patented in 1860. After much trial and error, perfecting the process, Walton opened the American Linoleum Manufacturing Company in 1872 on Staten Island. How do you feel about linoleum flooring? Anyone have some vintage lino still going strong?? Let’s see pics!
