London’s rich history has some fascinating individuals, including Shadrack Shack Martin. Born May 17th, 1833 in Nashville, Tennessee, he immigrated to Canada in 1854 where he stayed, working as a barber in London until the outbreak of the American Civil War. After two years of service, he was honourably discharged and returned to London in 1863. Shack Martin holds several distinctions, including:... He was the first coloured man to enlist in the Union forces fighting the Confederacy. He was one of the most active and prolific barbers in London in the 1870's. As London enters the Red Level of Restriction this weekend, we'd like to give everyone planning their events a helpful reminder of the rules we all must follow: Maintain social distancing Wear masks indoors... Wash hands frequently or use sanitizer List of who should remain home (sick with COVID-19, quarantining and waiting on results for COVID-19 test, in contact with someone else testing positive for COVID-19, traveled outside Canada or in contact with some who has restrictions, symptom of COVID-19, etc.) Background music can be no louder than the level of conversation Dancing, karaoke or singing is not allowed for guests Food buffets and cocktail receptions are not allowed Guest must remain seated at tables in order to remove masks for eating or drinking Under the Red level restrictions, we have an indoor capacity of 5 people and an outdoor capacity of 25 people.
