STUDENT ROCK BANK PERFORMS AT AUTO SHOW 2018 To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the famous toy car brand Hot Wheels some of our students were asked by the T1 ...Agency to perform at the 2018 Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto as the official Hot Wheels band! Our students only had 2 weeks to form a band and rehearse. They did a fantastic job performing and everyone had a blast playing at the show. You can watch the Hot Wheels band perform on YouTube. Dr. Nina Soyfer's debut piano album entitled Radiant Classics has been getting great reviews! In the latest issue of Whole Note Magazine Alex Baran compliments ...Nina on her piano technique by saying "Nina Soyfer demonstrates her innate ability to meet the stylistic demands of a remarkably varied program. This admirable skill rests on the foundation of an impressive keyboard technique and artistic insight." To read the complete review pick up the latest copy of Whole Note magazine. Radiant Classics features works by J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, as well as a couple of interesting Preludes by Ukrainian composer Vasyl Barvinsky. Not many of Barvinsky's works survive since all of his scores were publicly burned in 1948! Barvinsky spent the rest of his days trying to recreate as many of his lost works as he could. Nina is not only a pianist but also a composer, painter, dancer, singer, and educator. She painted the album cover for Radiant Classics which is available for purchase on i-Tunes or CD Baby. Dr. Nina Soyfer teaches piano and singing lessons here at Neighbour Note. Congratulations Nina. We could not be more proud of you!

Another successful March Break Rock Band Camp! Luka rocking out!
Performing student/teacher duets is incredibly beneficial for both student and teacher alike. Duets encourage interaction and can strengthen the musical bond between student and teacher. Duets teach teamwork and accountability. Students quickly learn that playing together with another musician requires a great deal of concentration, discipline, listening, awareness and practice! They are also a great source of motivation. Duets can sound quite impressive especially to student...s. Once students discover the full sound that can be achieved while performing a duet students often dive right in and practice more! Duets can build confidence in students. Once students are able to keep up with their teacher they become quite proud of themselves. Duets can provide comfort and reduce performing anxiety during a music recital. Most students are more comfortable performing with their music teacher on stage rather than going solo. They know that their teacher will be able to help them out of tough spots if they get lost or forget passages, or mix up a song order. The very presence of a teacher sharing the stage with their student helps deflect audience attention and focus from the student and in turn can make a somewhat scary moment into a fun positive experience. Here is a great example of a teacher helping a student on stage during a duet performance. This performance video is of guitar student Kelian and his teacher Oscar Rangel at one of our Winter Holiday Recitals last Dec. 2016. Notice how Oscar is able to calm Kelian by giving him some cues during their performance. Great job guys. We are so proud of you! http://neighbournote.ca/blog/post/benefits-performing-duets/ See more
Mommy Connections has listed our Little Rockers Band Camp as one of their top five favourite March Break Camps in West Toronto. Little Rockers is currently ranked as the number two March Break Camp for 2017. We are thrilled that this camp has received such great recognition! Children gain so much positive experiences from this camp. The feedback has been amazing. Little Rockers Band Camp focuses on four main elements: teamwork, accountability, creativity, and performance! https://www.mommyconnections.ca//favourite-march-break-ca/
Piano recitals are not just for kids! The benefits of performing music for an audience at any age are many: Empowerment, validation, encouragement, and accomplishment are all great reasons to participate in a music recital. So why is it that very few adult students do not participate in music recitals? Maybe some adults feel embarrassed performing with younger students. After all, as adults we are older, have more life experience, and should therefore be more proficient than ...children correct? Wrong! It takes longer to develop musical skills as an adult learner. Aging is a constant challenge. Well learned skills start to decline. Many of us have bad habits that we have developed over many years and these are incredibly difficult to break. Maybe it is simply a time commitment. So many of us already have way too many commitments! The older we get the less time we seem to have. While this is true, scheduling deadlines and goals to work towards is a great incentive to practice. Seeing the recital date on the calendar can be really motivating and give you that much needed push for practicing. Hopefully more adult students will participate in music recitals. The benefits are simply too great to ignore. Here is a video of one of our adult piano students Brenda performing Ballad Pour Adeline at one of our spring piano recitals in Roncesvalles village in June 2015. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxWRIPbF69M Way to go Brenda! We are so proud of your performance and your bravery! - See more at: http://neighbournote.ca//piano-recitals-are-not-just-kids/

Neighbour Note piano student Rosalie Ginestet completed her first music composition entitled 'Rosalie Aria' with the guidance of her teacher Dr. Nina Soyfer. Rosalie Aria is a short vocal piece, where the singer is meant to dance as well as play piano. Originally the vocalist was to sing and dance the first verse, and then go to the piano and accompany the second verse. Rosalie and Nina had a lot of fun creating the piece. It made the learning of piano and voice so much more enjoyable. Fantastic job Rosalie and Nina! Dr. Nina Soyfer has just recently completed her Licentiate diploma in Piano Performance (LRCM) from the Royal Conservatory of Music. The Licentiate diploma is the highest level of piano performance that the RCM offers for any certificate program. Nina has a PhD in Musicology, a Masters degree in Music, and a Bachelor's degree in Music, all from York University. She also has her ARCT in piano performance from the RCM. Nina is also a prize-winning painter, poet, dancer/choreographer, and developer of the Integrated Arts Method (IAM) for teaching. We are thrilled to have Nina on faculty here at Neighbour note. A Thank You card to John Force from the Hall family. Guitar student Matthew has been taking guitar lessons with John for over 10 years now. He started off as a Rock and Blues lead and rhythm guitarist and has now discovered the classical guitar. He is currently preparing for his Gr.8 RCM classical guitar exam. Matthew has performed in the band Firebean for 3 years as part of Neighbour Note's student Rock band program. Matthew has also been taking trombone lessons for the past two years at Neighbour Note. Matthew's sister Christina has been taking voice and piano lessons at Neighbour Note for over 4 years. This is a very musical family! The Hall's appreciate John's dedication and passion for teaching.

This Thank You card from Neighbour Note piano student Peter to Nina is well written!. Words like 'feel', 'never give up', and 'happy' is a great summation of what Neighbour Note piano lessons are all about. Peter thanks Nina for all of her encouragement over the past year while he was learning to play the piano. The piano can be a tough instrument to learn but with the right teacher anything is possible! Thank you Peter for your kind words. Good luck with your lessons this year!
