#WouldYouRather Wednesday This coming Saturday is #BatAppreciationDay! Bats make their home at Dunvegan and can be seen in the summertime, especially at dusk. They help to eat mosquitoes and other bugs! If you’re not exactly a bat fan, maybe you can appreciate snakes? Garter snakes can often be seen at Dunvegan on hot days. They eat mice - and that is very much appreciated by at least one of Dunvegan’s staff! ... So which do you appreciate more? Click "like" on the photo of the animal you choose!

Happy National Pet Day! Pets have been a part of Dunvegan for many years! In 1899, the St. Charles Mission had two dogs named Piram and Niger, and a cat. The pictures below are of Dunvegan’s Program Coordinator’s pets. David is Stephanie’s cat, Sadie is Ellyn’s dog, and little Name-To-Be-Determined (NTBD for short) is Stephanie’s puppy that will be arriving at the end of the month!! Let’s see your pets! #PetDay
What is this artifact? It’s not an armpit washing stand, or a hide-away ballet barre. And it's definitely not a height measurement "thingy" or a barrier to keep people from your pitcher of long island iced tea! :D It is a drying rack! This ingenious design allows the rack to be folded down when not in use, and props up when needed, particular for undergarments that couldn’t be hung out in the yard for all to see (scandalous!)
#WouldYouRather Wednesday: Close your eyes. Imagine it’s the middle of the night on a blustery December night in 1896 at Dunvegan. You’re wrapped up snuggly in your feather mattress under your beautiful crazy quilt. But suddenly you feel it! The call ofnature (otherwise known as the bowl of beans and 5 cups of tea you drank at supper). What do you do?? Would you rather run out into the freezing night to the outhouse or use the chamber pot that’s located near your bed?
We’ve been having so much fun with this it’s time for another round of WRONG ANSWERS ONLY! Tell us what this item is, but give us the wrong answer! We’ll give you the right answer on Thursday!

#TriviaTuesday On this day in 1908, the Edmonton Bulletin ran an article describing the freight traffic that travelled on the Peace River. This is a photo of the S.S. Grahame. What was the name of the steamer that carried flour and lumber for Fort Dunvegan? www.virtualmuseum.ca//histoires_de_chez_nous-co/pm_v2.php
Today we honour all those who have and are still serving our country. Thank you. We remember John Chipman Kerr, who worked as a ferry operator at Dunvegan around 1920, and received the Victoria Cross for bravery during the Battle of Somme in 1916. http://www.vconline.org.uk/john-c-kerr-vc/4587307751
