However, it’s not only from repetitive stress that causes joint or tendon or muscle issues, but with a sudden increase in training that causes a shock to the systems because they are not used to being placed under such an intense exercise like runnin...g. Running is an advanced exercise that many people underestimate. To run properly involves adequate balance, equal weight distribution, even joint use [between the feet, ankles, knees, hips, etc.], adequate muscle endurance and tendon stiffness, to name a few. In this easy to follow along video, Nichelle guide you through the initial exercises that you should work on after an ankle/knee injury to make sure you are preparing your body for the work that running demands of it. It is recommended that you do this video every second day and increased difficulty after 2 to 3 weeks as needed by using stronger elastic bands, closing your eyes, doing more single leg exercises etc.

Daily habits such as how much you sit and how you hold your posture can impact your hip for instance. Do you have a history of lower back pain or a bad fall on your tailbone? Do you have flat feet and/or collapsed arches? Your glutes may not be firing properly or in the correct order. You may distribute your weight unevenly causing more wear and tear on one hip versus the other. Or perhaps you lack flexibility and strength where needed. Even restrictions in your large intestine could play a factor in your hip tightness.

In this easy to fall along exercise video, Nichelle guide you through the step-by-step process of how to reduce the swelling, caused by lymphedema, in the lower extremities. If possible, perform these exercises on an incline surface as seen in the video. This could be a bed, couch, wall, pillow, chair, etc. You can do this video to to three times a day seven days a week. If the condition is serious or you have a heart condition, please consult your medical doctor before starting these exercises. It is also recommended that you schedule an assessment with your local manual osteopath in order to correct any misalignments that may be contributing to your pain/dysfunction contributing to your lymphedema. The iliotibial band, more commonly known as the IT band, is a long and thick fibrous structure that attaches from the TFL muscle and the gluteus maximus muscle on the top of the hip, and down the side of the knee. The structure helps to give the gluteus maximus muscle leverage and also helps to support the outside of the hip and knee. Although the structures and exercises are great, you should find out why you feel you have a tight IT band in the first place. Do you simply lack a regular stretching routine? Do you have weak hip/pelvic stabilizer muscles? Do you have a combination of both? Regardless of the answer, it is recommended that you seek out an appointment with your local manual osteopath for a full assessment to make sure the body is in proper alignment.
