At Day Hospice we like to make things, but in doing so we always try to make things that are either beautiful or useful, and this week we did both. DIY surface cleaner spray (2 parts vinegar/1 part Dawn dish soap + a few drops of essential oil), and a beautiful clay bowl that we stamped with natural elements like sage and thyme from our Hospice Garden, fallen leaves and dried orange. We had a vibrant discussion about the concept of sacrifice and how the older ones in our group -who lived through WWII- understood what it meant to sacrifice for the greater good, and how in our current time of global distress they can be leaders, sharing their wisdom and perspective. Here's what the consensus was: "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but the present is a gift"

Ever since March we've been connecting with our Willows group virtually, and staying in touch with our Day Hospice clients over the phone, we are SO HAPPY to be welcoming them back into our space again for visits (albeit socially distant and masked visits)

Guys form bonds by playing or watching sports, going to concerts, or working together. Women connect by talking about their feelings. As we get older and take on more responsibilities at work and home, men typically have less time for these shared activities, which can be isolating." Due to some nearby construction our Men's Walking Group has been moved to Sibbald's Point Park. Still taking place on Thursdays *weather permitting. Please contact us to register.

Love this idea! CAYR's Digital Storytelling workshops provide individuals living in York Region who identify as 2SLGBTQ+, use substances, and/or are impacted by HIV/AIDS an opportunity to tell their story in a creative way. Participants have the opportunity to create a short video (2-4 minutes) of image, voice, text and music layered together to tell any part of their life story.

Our first Virtual Arts group last week was such a success. Participants joined together over Zoom to assemble their beautiful Fall creations and look at the results! Mandala is a word from the Sanskrit language meaning: Sacred Circle, and creating them can create a feeling of tranquility and mindfulness. Each piece was as unique as it's creator.

Today at our Day Hospice group we were working with a theme, which was hands. Hands are our connection to the people we love, our livelihoods, as well as a conduit of Covid, and at the moment -a place of risk. There's a lot of meaning we hold in our hands. To honour our hard working hands we gave ourselves a hand massage, created beautiful thumbprint trees, wrote a hand haiku, and made some delicious smelling hand scrub. To top it all off...we sent everyone home with a hearty and absolutely delicious lunch!
