We are now accepting registration for families for our programs Indigenous H.I.P.P.Y. (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) and S.M.A.R.T. (Supporting Mothers And Raising Toddlers). The Indigenous HIPPY site at the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre serves families with indigenous children ages 18 months to 5 years old that reside in Vancouver. Our referral process and registration are simple. ... 1) Please send me the mother/caregiver's name, contact information, child's name, and date of birth. I will gladly contact and inform her of our program's structure and the system of support we have available at this time of COVID-19. Or 2) Please give her my contact information and she can contact me directly to register or seek information. I can be reached by e-mail [email protected] or Cellphone 604-880-5451 Please note that the usual service delivery of the program had changed due to the pandemic. Our Indigenous HIPPY Team has been very creative and dedicated to supporting indigenous families despite COVID-19. Indigenous HIPPY is a home visiting program that provides a unique home-based education that promotes both Adult Education and Early Childhood Learning for children 3 - 5 years old. Following protocols of physical distance amid COVID-19, the HIPPY Home Visitor will remotely guide the mother/caregiver to learn how to teach her child the essential skills-set required to enter the education system. We will find a way to deliver the materials to the family's home. The home visitor will adapt to any electronic communication device that the mother has available. Supporting Mothers and Raising Toddlers (SMART) is a play-based learning program for children aged 18 to 36 months. It focuses on deepening parent-child bonds, fostering healthy early childhood development, increasing connections to community resources, and strengthening social networks. Thank you for your support! Osiris Lopez HIPPY Coordinator Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society 1607 East Hastings Street Vancouver, BC V5L 1S7 Cell: 604-880-5451 www.vafcs.org
