This upcoming weekend would have marked one of our last competitions of the year at the U15 Challenge Cup in Belleville. ON. Unfortunately, our season had to e...nd early due to the ongoing health crisis, but Team LIKE recognizes that the health and safety of everyone is the main priority. We are so proud of the progress we made this season, both as individual curlers, as well as a team. We were able to compete in the following events: - U18 Cashspiel at the RC Navy Curling Club - U15 Cash on the Wall Bonspiel at the Pembroke Curling Centre (Winners) - U15 Ladies Curling Association (LCA) at the RA Riverside Curling Club (Winners) - U15 Meteor Junior Slam at the Russell Curling Club (Playoffs) - U18 Provincial Qualifiers at the Brockville Country Club (B-Side Quarter Finals) - U18 Galaxy Junior Slam at the Dundas Valley Golf and Curling Club (Playoffs) We are so grateful for the support of our families, coaches (Lou and Brian), and sponsors for making this season possible. We would also like to thank our home club, Huntley Curling Club and the ice makers for all their support throughout the season! Lastly, the COVID-19 virus is affecting all of us. Small businesses are having a difficult time keeping the doors open and keeping people employed. We encourage everyone to support local businesses whenever & wherever you can! We especially want to highlight our sponsors who supported us, now it’s time for them to get some support back. To all HCC Members: After much debate, with deep regret the Huntley Curling Club Board of Directors has decided that the club will cease all further curling and events this season, effective today. As you are all aware, the concern about spread of COVID 19 (Coronavirus) has affected everyone, perhaps around the entire world. And right now the problem is very close to home.... The City of Ottawa is being proactive in this issue, and has enacted their Emergency Plan to combat the spread of the virus. Ottawa Public Health has new web content to provide guidance on considering risks and mitigations for events and mass gatherings. Refer to OttawaPublicHealth.ca/Coronavirus for the latest information. Given the situation is fluid, we recommend checking the page daily for updated guidance. We have a vulnerable demographic as well as at-risk individuals within our club members, and many have already expressed their concern about continuing curling. Some members are simply not showing up to league play already. We cannot guarantee the safety of members if the club remains open for curling, and it does not make sense to continue with club operations if it puts members at risk of contracting the virus. Thus, consistent with the City of Ottawa declaration about closure of many public venues, the Board feels strongly that it is being proactive and prudent to cease activities within the club. Fortunately we have been able to get through most of the season already. More details will follow concerning determination of league champions, when to remove your belongings from the club, and any other lesser details. The ice plant will be turned off by tomorrow. At present we have scheduled the AGM for June 2, and will maintain that date for the time being. We wish you all the best of health !! Blake Sinclair HCC President
