Huron Women's Shelter, Second Stage Housing and Counselling Services 03.01.2021

We know we just said we were taking some time off social media, but we couldn't resist. Here's to a holiday filled with warmth, joy, love and light. From all of us here at HWSSSHCS, Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Hey Everyone! We're taking some time off of social media for the holidays. But we couldn't leave before saying a huge thank you to this community one last time! This year has been...something...but through it all, you had our backs. It's been an absolute honour and a joy to experience the deep love and commitment this community has show towards each other throughout 2020. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. And here's to 2021!

Hi Everyone, As we're sure you're aware, Ontario will once again be entering lockdown as of December 26th. We wanted to stress that during this time, as always, our doors will be open, and lines of communication will be active. We know that COVID-19 has disproportionately affected those experiencing gender-based violence. Many will face increased relationship stress, isolation, feel unsafe, experience harm during this time. We ask that you reach out to your friends, neighbou...rs, colleagues and families and make sure they're doing ok. Our doors are open. Our commitment to serving women and children our community in a safe way remains unwavering. If you or someone you know is experiencing gender-based violence, please encourage them to reach out. Our 24/7 support line is available, and we can deliver many of our services virtually. Our shelter remains open while following all provincial safety guidelines and protocols. We're sorry that as a community we are going through this, again (and especially during this season). If you want to help, or support us - consider sharing this post. The more we connect as a community, the less isolated we all feel, the better. Our 24/7 line: 1.800.265.5506. Thank you, and stay safe.

The courage of a woman alone is not enough. It takes the support of an entire community to end violence against women. You can help more women live free from violence by supporting your local shelter (that's us!) Text COURAGE to 41010 to donate $5-$25 to support.

New and interesting work is being done about the intersection between gender-based violence and traumatic brain injury. A brain injury is more than just a brain injury in the context of domestic violence. There’s so much more going on. https://bit.ly/32QpRBN

We Remember. Remembrance Day is also known by the name of Armistice Day. On this day the military members ( soldiers, airmen, and sailors) are memorialized. On this day 11 November 1918 at 11 am militaries stopped combatting for World War 1. Almost one hundred thousand military troops lost their lives for Canada in both World Wars.

Today is Giving Tuesday. Instead of asking, we wanted to say thanks. This year has been unlike anything we could have predicted, and we've had to change and adapt in ways we didn't see coming. Through it all, this community was here to support us. And for that, we are grateful. Thank you.

We asked, you responded! A little while ago, we posted asking for small household items, and honestly, it was overwhelming! Thank you so much to Alisia Williams who shared our post originally, and to everyone else who helped spread the word. We're so grateful to this community, and can't thank you enough!
