We are pleased to announce that IESC has opened up registration for our March figure skating ice from March 1st to 14th, 2021. Please go to www.iceedgeskatingclub.com to register! At this time we can only offer this to skaters under 19 years of age. We have split our ice/ lesson time between junior and senior StarSkaters. We request that you register your skater according to their junior or senior level so that they will be grouped with skaters at their same level; this will ...keep coaching costs down. There are 45 minute lessons held on Monday to Thursday and 1 hour lessons on Sunday held over for 2 weeks. If all goes well, we will offer the same ice for the last 2 weeks of March and then we will have our Spring ice times starting in April. Please contact Coach Candice if you are uncertain as to whether your child is a junior or a senior StarSkater: [email protected]. We also have 2 spots for morning ice (6:30 a.m. to 7:30) for Wednesday, Feb 17th and 24th at a cost of $33.00 per class (includes coaching fees). The first people to email the [email protected] to register their child will get the spots. See more
A Family Day following a day that is all about love - perfectly together this weekend! :) All of us at Ice Edge Skating Club wish you a happy and safe family day!
We love what we do because of skaters and families like you! Happy Valentine’s Day!!
It may be hard to keep up with her, but we love the speed and agility our StarSkater Katlynn uses to complete her axel!
As we move towards return-to-skating, it is time for the skaters to prepare for it physically and mentally over the coming weeks. Here are a few steps our coaches recommend: 1. Gradually build back up your fitness level to reduce the likelihood of injuries.... 2. Eat healthy. 3. Drink lots of water. 4. Get 8-10 hours of sleep a day. 5. Stretch everyday. 6. Be active outside of this sport also to build up other muscle groups. 7. Do your core exercises 3 times a week. 8. Make sure you warm up on the ice for the first five minutes or before you come to the rink as no warm ups are permitted at the rink. 9. Practice standing on one foot with eyes closed for 10 seconds everyday in a safe location. 10. Do gluteal exercises like side leg lifts or side band walking to strengthen the muscle atrophy. 11. Train the mind: review your previous accomplishments and goals, and surround yourself with positive self messages! The skaters will need to take it slow and be patient as they build themselves back up to the conditioning level they were at previously. And we look forward to being there to help them along the way when we return to ice!
Happy lunar new year and 2021 Year of the Ox!
Can you guess which outdoor rink our StarSkater Gabby was at to practice her spiral? If you are looking for a full listing of public ice rinks in our city, please visit www.chestermere.ca/619/Outdoor-Rinks.
Blue skies and blue ice chase away winter blues. Hooray for backyard rinks! This is where Estelle practiced her skating moves! Well done to stay active.
The Achal family skated the ponds of our own City of Chestermere. And if you meet this StarSkater while doing the same, you will be charmed! :)
Fun does not have to be contained within daylight! Coach Rachael shows off her cool moves in the cool of night!
Please note that the Chestermere Recreation Centre out of which we operate will be closed effective December 13th until January 12th, 2021. The opening week is in line with the planned start of our Winter 2021 programs. Since our fall programs have already closed with refunds for the remaining CanSkate fall sessions, this closure is not impacting us further - aside from missing you all and missing the awesome energy of our skaters on ice!
Coach Brenda spent her holidays in the good company of her daughter! Not surprisingly that included time on the outdoor ice rinks! ;)
Skate Canada has been working with Alberta Health Services in an effort to lift restrictions on the StarSkate Program. Although a compromise was reached, the restrictions that remain are too onerous on our Club and therefore we are still not able to offer our StarSkate program. We are hopeful that the restrictions will be lifted soon so that we can get back out on the ice. We will continue to provide updates as we have new information to share. In the meantime, trust that we are monitoring the situation so that we can resume the StarSkate program without any delay.
Only a week to go to our cash draw raffle on December 16!!! Who will be our lucky winners? As a reminder to our members, pleaser return all sold ticket stubs and any unsold raffle tickets by Sunday December 13th, 2020. Please contact Chris promptly at [email protected] to make arrangements for return.
Dear families, We hope you are keeping safe and healthy during these unprecedented times. With the announcement made by the Alberta Government this week to extend the cancellation of sports, we will not be able to finish the remaining Fall skating classes. For the CanSkaters registered for our Fall 2020 session: IESC will process a refund for those classes that were cancelled. IESC, like other skating clubs, is run by volunteer board members and so please have patience while... we process refunds. Unfortunately, we did not get to say "good-bye" but know there are always friends at the arena and we hope you will want to be part of our skating community in the future. If allowed, we will run our winter Canskate classes starting on Jan 11th, 2020. We are grateful you joined us for skating lessons, even for the short period of time, and hope you had as much fun on the ice as we did and that your skater was able to learn a few new skills to take with them to skate on Lake Chestermere . For the StarSkaters registered for our Fall 2020/ Winter 2020 program: Unfortunately we also have to close the StarSkate sessions for a few more weeks. We are planning to restart the program on Jan 11, 2021 to align with the school start and to extend the Winter session into the first week of April to compensate for a one week late start. We will update you in this regard once we have been able to confirm the ice with the Chestermere Recreation Centre. When we return to skating in January, IESC will issue refunds for the missed Fall classes and any missed classes for Winter as the case may be. All the coaches are so grateful to have been a part of your skating journey. We have had so much fun getting to know each one of you since September and helping you become the best version of you. Sadly we were put on pause after all the great accomplishments you have all achieved in learning new jumps and spins, passing tests to learning new solos and increasing your flexibility. We are so proud of how hard you worked and the commitment you gave to show up and work hard. Stay healthy and safe and continue to be active as a family in whatever capacity that might be. Making puzzles, playing board games and cooking together are all the special gifts of this extra time. We look forward to seeing you all in January! Message from Coach Candice Behm and the Ice Edge Board
In accordance with the new public health measures announced this afternoon, we will be closing our programs for two weeks effective Friday, November 13th. There will be no Friday morning ice tomorrow, nor StarSkate on-ice or off-ice classes and no CanSkate classes from November 13th until November 27th. We will be sure to update you when our programs reopen and how the make up classes and/or refunds will be handled. ... We sincerely appreciate your patience as we process this impact and adjust to the new guidelines.
We have received approval from AGLC to extend the draw date of our raffle to December 16th, 2020. If you still have unsold tickets then please hand write in on the face of the ticket the new draw date to reflect the December 16th, 2020 draw date. The date may have changed but the great prizes are still the same! Each ticket is $10 for chance to win a 1st draw prize of $1000, 2nd draw prize of $750 and 3rd draw prize of $250! So invite your friends, families and neighbours to ...try their luck at a cash prize! Or who knows, the lucky winner could be you! If you have finished selling your tickets then please contact Chris Murray, our fundraising coordinator, at [email protected] to make arrangements to return the sold ticket stubs. If you would like more time to sell your tickets, or would like more tickets to sell, please also contact Chris to let him know and to make arrangements to have your tickets/ ticket stubs returned by December 13th, 2020. All fundraising proceeds go directly to the club and enable us to keep our ice and off-ice times affordable while giving us an opportunity to purchase new equipment and support the development of our young athletes! We appreciate everyone's help with this fundraising event and on behalf of everyone at the Ice Edge Skating Club we thank you so much for supporting us.
Reminder that our StarSkate and CanSkate classes resume this afternoon, Thursday Nov. 12th! And we are eager to be back on the ice just as these adorable CanSkaters are eager to catch the bubbles!!
There are no skating or dryland classes this Wednesday, November 11th. As Remembrance Day is observed across Canada, we remember our history and thank those who have served our country in the past and present time.
We have updated our registration page so you can now: - register for drop-in ice time - pay a SkateCanada test fee when your skater is ready to pass to the next level in any of the four StarSkate areas: Skills, Ice Dance, Freeskate and Artistic Please notify Coach Candice at [email protected] if you are registering for an extra ice session. ... The test fee only needs to be purchased when instructed to by the coach. As per October 27 SkateABNWTNUN Events Update, all STARSkate Region Closed Competitions are cancelled for the remainder of 2020. The section will aim to provide opportunities starting in 2021 in alignment with any public health orders that may be in place at that time. This may be a disappointing development regarding competitions but your StarSkater's development can continue unabated! StarSkaters at all levels who are working on their solos should continue to practice and focus on skills, dance and elements of their solo, as well as training for their individual star level tests.
