IFFO presents "The Female Gaze" This new screening series shines a light on films directed and written by women about women. For the first screening we present The Planters on Thurs. Dec. 3 at 7pm EST (Canada only). Crewed solely by the writers/directors Alexandra Kotcheff and Hannah Leder, the film is a absurdist comedy about unlikely friendships. Following the screening, Tish Chambers (programmer) will be joined by Di Golding (film critic) to talk about the film, friendship..., and the female gaze. Before the screening, check out the supporting program of other films about making friends that you may want to watch before The Planters. What does it take to make an indie film? How about two best friends, 127 days, and one hot desert? Hannah Leder and Alexandra Kotcheff wrote, directed, and solely crewed the production of The Planters in the New Mexico desert. Check out their video "How to Make a Film without a Crew" (https://www.youtube.com/watch) to find out what it was really like for the two of them carrying their own gear, doing their own makeup, and occasionally falling flat on their faces. See this u...niquely made film Thurs. Dec. 3 at 7pm EST (available for 48 hours across Canada). No woman is an island, as the women in these films learn. Closed off women learn to open their hearts thanks to unlikely new friends in The Breaker Upperers, Adult Life Skills, Summerland, and Girl Asleep. The Planters (screening online Thurs. Dec. 3 at 7pm EST for 48 hours across Canada) sees unexpected and unique new friends enter the emotionally-cut-off Martha Plant's life. Tish Chambers and Di Golding will talk about these themes of closed-off hearts, new friends, and the... importance of human connection when they talk, live, after the screening. So, do your homework and watch these other films about making friends, streaming in Canada, before you watch the post-screening talk.
