At a time when Canadians with disabilities are still reeling from the implementation of spartan triage protocols in preparation for hospital surges, they may now face another ableist hurdle. Removing the requirement from MAID that death no longer be foreseeable or imminent but only for persons with disabilities risks a tidal wave of people opting for MAID not because they do not enjoy life, but because they lack the support to embrace and meet it on their terms. It is not dis...ability that is intolerable, it is the ableist barriers which relegate us to institutions due to a lack of appropriate attendant care support. Many of us already face dread when considering what the future holds and then encounter apathy when meeting with health care professionals who cannot see beyond disability to recognize that our quality of life is comprised of so much more than a diagnosis. https://tgam.ca/3kS6Hlm

At ILNS our number one priority is the safety and well-being of our consumers, staff, and community, therefore due to the continued risk COVID-19 has at this time we have decided to cancel this year’s Christmas Gala and Dance. With that in mind, we still want to connect with all of you over the holiday season, so stay tuned for an announcement in November regarding our holiday remix featuring a few virtual events and exciting door prizes and giveaways.
