Happy World Orca Day! What better way to celebrate World Orca Day than to share the news that southern resident orca Onyx (L87) has been found swimming off the ...west coast of Vancouver Island with K pod and L pod. Many have been worried about Onyx, who had not been spotted for a while. Since the death of his mother in 2005, Onyx has been documented travelling with members of the K pod and has been associated with the J pod for the past decade. Welcome back Onyx, and happy World Orca Day to all! #JoinThePod (Photos by: @adam_ernster via Instagram)

this is a typical "whale watching experience" - great excitement, great footage, and you wish you had a 360 lens on your camera!

Gas explosion is becoming a number one killer in the society. Please, you dont have to shake the gas cylinder to know the level of its content. What you should... do is to wet a side of the cylinder with water, after a while the used top part will be dry while the lower part with gas will remain wet. The wet portion tells you the amount of gas left. Most times we shake our gas cylinders to know if its finished or not, thats a dangerous thing to do. It could be suicidal! You can save a life today by sharing this information.

This does not have to do with Dragon Boating but we noticed the large response to the profile picture we posted yesterday with one of our teams (Hope afloat Can...ada) being photo bombed by an Orca whale. These are some photos taken in our local waters while with a Whale Watching Tour Operator (there are many). Not only do we here on Vancouver island get to enjoy several sightings of Orca whales, our waters are also home to Mink Whales, Humpback Whales, Dolphins, Seals, and Sea lions. Not to mention,an abundance of other sea life, Eagles, Blue Herons, Swans, and numerous other sea birds. We are often mistaken for the City of Vancouver, which lies east of us on the opposite shores of the Georgia Strait. Vancouver Island has a large Dragon Boat community with over 100 teams enjoying our waters and several Dragon Boat Festivals during the summer months, the most notable being the Victoria Dragon Boat Festival and the Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival. Last year, the Comox Dragon Boat Festival had a slight delay in their racing schedule when a pod of Orcas decided to pay a visit in the harbour where the races were being held. Sadly, like everywhere it seems, races have been cancelled this year because of the pandemic, but hopefully future years will see us all back on the water enjoying the races, the beautiful scenery we are known for, and if we are lucky, a visit from one of our magnificent sea spectators. Most important, we hope teams from distant lands will pay us a visit and allow us to share with them the beauty that we call home. See more

A Blue Whale was spotted off the coast of Vancouver Island this morning. The Blue Whale is the largest animal to ever grace this planet. The largest dinosaur wa...s the Saurapod which weighed up to 85 tons. Some male Blue Whales weigh as much as 200 tons. A Blue Whales heart is 6 feet wide and weighs 400 lbs. When a Blue Whale gives birth the calfs are approx 25 feet long. Most Blue Whale deaths are a direct result from collisions with marine vessels See more

One of our very lucky passengers staring into the eye of this extremely curious humpback. Encounters like this dont happen very often on the ocean. The only wa...y something as magical as this can occur is if the animal engages with you first. Encounters like this cannot be forced but when they do occur, we promise theyre life changing! There is nothing like having a 30 ton animal lock eyes with you *Again keep in mind this whale and its partner approached us on their own. All whale watching regulation guidelines were followed* Video from our very own @captainbeezer * * * * * #santabarbara #santabarbarachannel #seesb #humpbackwhale #humpbackbreach #whale #cetacean #megapteranovaeangliae #wildlifephotography #wildlife #wildlifephotographeroftheyear #artofvisuals #travel #earth #changingphotography #whalewatching #whalewatch #whale #condorexpress #condorexpresssb See more

Tasli Gary and I went ...for a quick look and found the T100s and the T046Bs including T046B1B the white killer whale calf also known as TLUK. What an awesome way to start the morning. See more

At first it just looked like a splash following the other orca. Its short, but sweet. Taken recently on tour with Sooke Coastal Explorations!
