Who knew you could even paint with #Skittles ? Thanks to @gish (Greatest International Scavenger Hunt) item #15 I learned that it is possible to play with creating watercolors from the candies while also having a midnight sugar treat. I chose to attempt, letting go of any judgement, a "candy portrait" of one of my many favorite "notable public figures that brighten my day and inspires"...... Random Acts Of Kindness week continues today. WHAT IF we challenged ourselves to do a RAOK for the number of days that we are in years? Do I fit? This guy always joins us for dinner, sometimes finding his own chair to sit in. This time is was a decorative small bowl to mold himself awkwardly into with lots overflowing the edges. Such a "people cat" in on the conversation, a part of our wee gatherings. I changed schools A LOT growing up so a desire to fit in to new groups was a part of my story growing up.... I know what it feels like to be socially "on the edges" and "awkwardly" trying to squeeze in. This cat has strangely reminded me that the journey and challenges of my youth may be why working with organizations around Connection and Belonging (which is NOT about fitting in) is so deeply meaningful. Fitting in is about assessing a situation and becoming who you need to be to be accepted. Belonging, on the other hand, doesn't require us to change who we are; it requires us to be who we are. - Brene Brown NOW we need those connections more than ever with our work constraints. I was heart broken to hear Tony Hsieh passed away tonight. He was just 46. "Delivering Happiness" was not just the name of his book but the way he lived his life, led his companies, and revitalized downtown Las Vegas.... A kind, generous, humble, unique, creative visionary who's influence stretched far beyond Zappos Family of Companies . For years I have adored the values, fun, playfulness, engagement and weird factor that was shared with the business world through Zappos Insights. I only got to meet my "mentor" in passing last September at the Responsive Conference and it was beyond memorable. When my 15 year old came in to my office after midnight and asked why the tears I shared the sad news, his book, and "Your Culture Book" with all of it's fun photos. 15 yr old: "I hope this inspires you mom" Me: "To keep working on my calling of helping to create happier workplaces?" 15: yr old "Yeah okay, but no I meant to live each day like it's your last." Condolences to all of his family, friends, and Zapponians.
