I was honoured to attend the National Aboriginal Veterans Day ceremonies in Riverton to pay tribute to all veterans of Aboriginal heritage who have bravely defe...nded Canada as members of the Canadian Armed Forces. From the War of 1812, the Nile Expedition (https://www.canadashistory.ca//fur-t/voyageurs-on-the-nile) WWI, WWII, the Korean War, UN and NATO missions, through to our modern deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq, Latvia, Ukraine, Iraq, and Mali, we honour the bravery and sacrifice of our Aboriginal men and women in uniform. Lest we forget. See more

UPDATE: The R.M. of Grahamdale has declared a State of Local Emergency. We have a warming center set up at the Moosehorn Curling Rink. Anyone and everyone is w...elcome to visit the warming center for a hot beverage, a sandwich, to charge your phone/laptop or fill your water jugs. Alf Cuthbert School has opened up their shower facility to the public. If you are interested in taking a warm shower, please go to the warming center first and our volunteers will happily direct you to where you need to go. We have arranged for water tanks to be placed at the Gypsumville Hall and the Steep Rock Hall. We are working on getting potable water tanks too and will update you as soon as we know if this is possible. Portable Restrooms will also be placed at Steep Rock Hall and Gypsumville Hall. We are getting a lot of phone calls this morning regarding spoiled food, fuel expenses, etc., and what financial assistance is going to be offered. We are wanting all residents to know that they should be keeping all receipts of purchases made related to this power outage. In addition, keep an inventory of all spoiled food. If the Province declares this emergency as an "event", funding may come available and you may be able to get reimbursed for some of these expenses. Please know that an "event" and a "state of emergency" are two different things. Funding may only become available if an "event" is declared. Unfortunately, it is certainly possible that no "event" will be declared. If that is the case, you can check with your insurance company and perhaps some of these expenses will be covered under that. Based on the information being provided by Manitoba Hydro, it's possible that some areas in our Municipality will remain without power for another week, maybe more. If you are worried about your ability to stay safe and warm during the remainder of this power outage, please contact Nyla Klatt immediately. Her phone number is 768-0025. If you have any questions, please comment below, PM us, or phone our office. 204-768-2858.
