As COVID-19 cases continue to rise at an alarming rate, the Ontario government is imposing a province-wide shutdown that will go into effect on Saturday, December 26, 2020, at 12:01 a.m. This means that the rest of Ontario will be under the same lockdown restrictions as Toronto, Peel, Hamilton, York and Windsor-Essex regions. Dentistry is viewed as an essential service. Maintaining routine health care is important to the government so they can maintain hospital capacity. As the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) reaffirmed that for the time being dentists are permitted to provide a full scope of care to patients, including in-person care for non-essential and elective services. Dental hygiene services are also not affected.
