Jane SELBIE - Fabric Artist Influenced most by geography, Jane grew up hiking the mountains and creek beds of British Columbia and the meadows and lakes of southern Ontario. Her delightful brightly coloured fabric creations capture the essence of the rugged landscape of Canada. The use of colour and simplicity of line echo the influence of the Group of Seven. -The Ethel Curry Gallery http://www.jselbie.com/ Jaycee Conners Cory Bennett Kathy Sutcliffe Nemieda Tolentino Christine Davidson Nicole Harman Pictures don’t do this piece the justice it deserves!
Tonight began the first of 8 weeks of the Digital Comfort Studio workshop sponsored by the Arts Council - Haliburton Highlands and the Haliburton County Development Corporation. Three times each week ....so 24 sessions. Tonight was INSPIRATION led by Tiffany Howe. A great kick off. Pardon my photography.
Yay! 2021 brought a surge of creativity.
Creative fun at the first Mother-Daughter 1 day workshop! We had a Fabric Layering Workshop honouring social distancing, sanitizer and masks. Lots of themes...interior forest, skier, dog and dolphins....oh and a slice of fresh watermelon on a Lake Ontario stone.
Sunday was the last day of the 2020 The Studio Tour- Haliburton Highlands. Thank you to all who came and supported us. We had a mixture of new and old visitors, the youngest in my studio was about 9 months, the oldest....hard to tell with the masks. Here is first time buyer Janice Davies who bought a river scene, titled Nature’s Harmony.
Countdown Day 2 Just in case I’m confusing people by the days flying by....today is Thursday, the Tour starts this Saturday. I realized that Saturday should be Countdown Day 0..right? This year my Moose are positioned to welcome you under the canopy. One never knows where they are going to go. I bought them in Thunder Bay 10 years ago. I was flying. Getting them bundled for the flight and home was...interesting. See how art gives you stories? My route into the studio is marked to ensure your safety. I hope these signs are for one Tour only...they aren’t made for endurance. Visit jselbie.com to sample just some of what’s on offer.
Countdown Day 4 Just saw the Fall Tour edition of County Life. Beautiful colours, lots of good articles on artists in the County and a copy of the map and studios on The Studio Tour. www.thestudiotour.ca Today was one of those necessary but thankless days making labels, signs, moving furniture , etc. In all the clean up I found a tiny picture that had just disappeared. Now in its frame I stalled on a name. In reading Marci Mandel’s column, with her autumn poem, and have decided to title the tiny little picture with a big name Spectacle for the Soul.
Countdown Day 7 (adjusted to Day 6.) The Studio Tour is only 5 sleeps away. Watch for the Studio Tour Trivia Hunt. You have a chance to win one of three gift certificates. Whether attending the first or the second weekend you have a chance to win. At each of the 12 studios there is a unique trivia question about some aspect of Haliburton County. Gather your answers and submit to [email protected]
Countdown Day 8 Hi! Me again. Look at the great display case I found on Facebook Marketplace! The lighting is fantastic and clear shelves let it filter down. With Covid concerns my normal stands weren’t copacetic. Clip art will be perfectly displayed when setting up Saturday Morning. You know I think my countdown has gone wonky. I’ve lost a day. yikes!... www.thestudiotour.ca for more info jselbie.com for my website. Thanks to George and Elaine Schmid for the display case creation and delivery and my neighbour Gord for heat gunning the labels off. Seems to take a village to get me ready. See more
Thanks for the tip to circumvent Facebook. Works!! I have a whole new profile. I see posts from people I didn't see anymore. Facebook's new algorithm picks the same people - around 25-who will see your posts. Hold your finger anywhere in this post and click " copy ". Go to your page where it says " what's on your mind". Tap your finger anywhere in the empty field. Click paste. This is going to circumvent the system. Hello new and old friends! Drop a single hello, thanks! PLEA...SE SAY HELLO IF YOU SEE THIS. Countdown Day 12.......Here is the unveiling! Both have a story. Each were created during a mid-point of this peculiar year. They echo the impact of events on my creativity. I would love name suggestions. Naming is a separate art - that still is a little stuck in me. At The Studio Tour -Haliburton Highlands you will find both displayed in their full beauty. Visit my website jselbie.com newly updated. Cheers. Jane

I love the whole sculpture forest but sitting in this little orb stops time.
I’m open today and this weekend. Bring your masks and make a visit. This 8x10 pic is almost done. Just working on the lambs wool mist and some foreground detailing. Have to name it...any suggestions?
Small pictures and colour experimentation is a semi-solution to my COVID blues. My studio is open by appointment mostly. I ask that visitors bring and wear a mask. I will have disposable gloves. Some of these pictures will be heading off to the framer.. York River Picture Framing in Bancroft.
Well, everyone was a safe distance from each other. Just one seemed to hang around up there. They did a great job. I was worried about some of the dead branches over the shed.
