Found this make up air (DFMUA) not interlocked with the kitchen exhaust fan it works with. Workers would shut the exhaust fan down for the night after cooking, but the MUA would continue to fire bringing the products of combustion into the space. This is dangerous and illegal practice from the installer. We corrected this situation by installing an air switch sensing fan pressure and wired in series with the main control for the MUA. Now if a belt breaks, motor fails or owner just shuts the fan down for the night the air switch will sense the fan drop out, opening the set of contacts in the air switch and breaking power to the MUA. Stay safe and have your HVAC equipment serviced by a licensed contractor.

Carbon monoxide is no joke and can be prevented by having your heating system inspected. Here is a failed heat exchanger I replaced a couple weeks back that was certainly bringing CO into the air stream.
