Hip thruster variation that I've been playing around with lately. Connecting my lats to my glutes, and transferring my weight from my heels to my mid foot - shit that happens when you jump, leap, run, and move. Or at least, it's shit that should happen when you do those things. Breathing, it's essential to life. Obviously. I mean, if you don't breath - you die. BUT breathing well and fully is essential is also closely tied to balanced posture and ease of movement. . . . A lack of rib mobility and inner unit conditioning/function (deep core muscles) can lead to less than ideal breathing patterns, and an inability to breath fully and deeply. This can lead to pain and discomfort. ... . . . This online client is dealing with SI joint and back pain. But the primary focus on her 1st session with me today was on 1improving her breathing 2improving the relationship of movement between her ribs/pelvis/skull 3activation of her inner unit 4experiencing aspects of her gait cycle (walking) that she was avoiding. . . . Once we finished, she said her pain levels went from a 6 out of 10, down to around a 4 out of 10. She's more upright, balanced, open, and she can breath deeper than before. . . . Yep, that’s me on the left in 2015, right before my older brothers wedding. That’s also me, now, on the right - yesterday. . . . I’m no fitness model, and I don’t want to be one. My approach to training and living is holistic and sensible - I don’t beat the shit out of my body or punish it. I nurture it, listen to it as often as I can, and try to give it what it needs. I have habits, that I’ve built over time with consistency at a snails pace. This has lead to easy adjustmen...t massive sustainable change not only in my body and movement - but also in how I think, feel, love, and look at life. . . . I meditate each day, for no set amount of time. I eat whole foods, that suit my metabolic type and needs. I move and work on my movement each day, to help my injuries. I strength train around 2-3x per week for 30-45 mins. I drink lots of water. Take few essential minerals and supplements. I read, study, and learn what I need to be better at my chosen career. I practice what I teach. . . . I understand what you’re going through, because I have been through it - and in many ways I am STILL working through it. The changes in my life didn’t come effortlessly, BUT they surly didn’t come with a whole lot of suffering. My gradual, sensible, compassionate, and skilled approach allowed this. . . . My training ain't always sexy, cool, or exciting looking - but that's because it's TRAINING. . . . Training implies you're training for something, and chances are you're not an athlete (meaning you're not getting paid to play a sport), so your training should be based around being better at moving through your daily life. Training to be better, move better, feel better, and think better means doing what's NEEDED. And what's needed isn't always super exciting. ... . . . For example, I shift my hips during my squat and my hinge. I also, need a more open and upright posture for my spine to feel nice, due to my disc injuries. . . . So I'm working on improving my squat and hinge with careful, slow, and regressed progressions (I've made them way easier). The squat is simply body weight with a wedge placed strategically under my heel. The hinge is performed from my hands and knees, with a ball on my back, to groove the pattern and let me know if my spine is rounding. I'm also using bands to assist me in correcting my hip shifting during the squat and hinge. The bit at the end is a variation of the "superman" that uses a bosu ball and dowel in order to focus on posture and not hyper extension of my spine. . . . The Star Fish is an excellent exercise for developing the inner unit (deep abdominal wall/stabilizes), while learning to control the limbs in a criss crossing fashion. The use of the blood pressure cuff helps to measure just how well you’re actually activating the inner unit, and how well you can maintain the function of the inner unit while moving the limbs. . . .
