I believe diet culture is so harmful and covert it’s like a generational trauma. It’s been passed down to us from not only our culture but our loved ones. Diet culture can seem well meaning. Hurry up and CrUsH tHoSe gOaLs before it’s time to go to the beach. FUCK THAT. Go to the beach anyways! And wear whatever you want. You know what’s even better than trying to change your body to fit inside the incredibly small box society has decided we should all be in? LISTENING TO YOUR BODY and giving it all the foods and movements IT WANTS/NEEDS! When you truly begin to listen, it will tell you. And darling, that will place your body at its ideal weight. Happy eating, happy movements, good sleep, good moods, it all gets good when you stop restricting (physically and mentally). Who the heck wants to obsess over the scale anyways? When I was a kid, I LOVED cereal. I never missed breakfast. I always ate before leaving for school. Always. And continued that way until my late-20’s. That’s when I started this stupid thing called iNtErMitTeNt fAsTiNg. Long story short, I’ve been living in FEAR of eating cereal ever since, believing that it will lead to weight gain. Last evening I bought the first box of cereal that I’m ACTUALLY excited to eat in a REALLY long time and I only now just felt a substantial am...ount of relief. My mornings are going to transform. I’ve been struggling with bringing back breakfast and CEREAL is the key for me. I could not be more excited to not have to fry a damn egg in the morning, let alone eat one! Or rather, leave the house without consuming anything other than coffee - that stops now. dIeT cUlTUre taught me that cereal was uNhEalThY and causes weight gain. And boy, I was brain washed. I was legit AFRAID to eat cereal. How crazy is that? This past year has opened my eyes to the sadistic RuLeS set by DiEt CuLtUrE. Fuck that noise. I’m eating my damn cereal and I’m going to love it!! I’ve see a lot of conversations around the topic of working out while NOT trying to lose weight lately. Imagine, a world where we used and moved our bodies because we love ourselves; not because we hate our size and want to lose weight. Working out and exercise should be enjoyed not dreaded. Working out and exercise should be out of love not hate. ... Working out and exercise should be to focus on gains not weight to lose. Working out and exercise should be to improve your heath not a punishment for what you ate. Whether you love to spend time on a cardio machine, lifting some weights, going for hikes, doing pilates or any other way a person can move and use their body; it should always be FUN! If you don’t like running, don’t run - but if you love it, then lace up your sneakers and go! If you don’t enjoy the fitness class you attend on a regular basis, you are not obligated to keep going back! Let me ask you this, if you love doing something that actually improves your health and makes you feel great but doesn’t help you lose weight, would you keep doing it? So, keep this in mind. Not everyone who works out, does it to lose weight. And I think that’s how it should be for more people. Quick + Easy Soup Recipe I don’t make soup very often, and when I do I throw as much random stuff in there as I can. Usually it’s remaining vegetables that need to get eaten up soon! . What I like to do is cook EVERYTHING in chicken stock; from a local farm raised chicken that I cooked! It makes the soup so much more flavourful. You can literally throw any vegetables, grains, beans or legumes you’d like in there. This is what I did...... In a large pot of chicken stock I added: BokChoy Spiralled Zucchini Bell Peppers Spinach Green Lentils Black Beans 1 lb Ground Beef I let this simmer for about 45 minutes and bam a simple, delicious soup. And I’ve been enjoying it for lunch all week. Yum . .
