Dosage of acupuncture matters! Just as important as the treatment itself; it is equally important that you have clear and concise treatment plan. Amount of treatments and spacing of treatments is crucial to your acupuncture success! ... Acupuncturist, Katie Altneu, interviewed 200 acupuncturists to find out how many acupuncture treatments on average patients need to get the long last success people want. She found that most disorders need on average 6-8 or 8-10 treatments. Of course, every condition is unique. Generally the rule of thumb is that acute conditions take less treatments than chronic conditions. Thats what I am here for. I am your guide to get you the right amount of treatments to get you where you want to be. I will assess your condition, give you a clear and concise treatment plan and re-evaluate through out the treatment process. photo by Sofia Katherine Photography Read more on my blog here www.acupuncturetothepoint.ca

Most people find December stressful. What I am hearing in the treatment room is people feel overwhelmed. So much is on their plate this time of year. They feel out of balanced; like they need space to catch their breath. That's where tuina massage comes in. I gently apply pressure to acupuncture points along the clavicle then massage the diaphragm while the patient focus on their breath. This helps to open the chest and calm the nervous system. For digestive issues or fert...ility, I then do gentle massage techniques on the abdomen stimulating the vegus nerve or massage the lower abdomen to bring blood flow to the uterus. The result is a quicker relaxation response on the table. The chest feels more open, patients feel more balanced and holiday stress melts away. As the holidays ramp up here is your daily reminder to add some yin (rest) with the yang ( parties) of December. This time of the year is busy for everyone so take some time to just be still.

Sperm quality has been decreasing at a rapid and alarming rate. Sperm quality has reduced by 50% in the last 30 years. In 2010, the WHO changed the standard values of sperm testing. This means that tests that are within normal ranges nowadays would have been pathologic before 2010. The good news is that there is some research suggesting it is due to lifestyle, toxins etc.. and quality of sperm can be increased with some lifestyle changes and acupuncture. Check out my blog here to learn how to increase sperm count, morphology and motility. https://www.acupuncturetothepoint.ca//grande-prairie-alber

Regardless of how you feel about winter it is officially here. All we need to do is look at nature to see that winter is a time for rest and rejuvenation. Tree's lose their leaves and their energy moves more inward, bears hibernate, birds are rarely seen. Just like nature our energy also moves more inward. I have included some Chinese Medicine tips on how to protect your energy in winter to feel your best. https://www.acupuncturetothepoint.ca//grande-prairie-alber

Adding some Christmas cheer to the clinic!

Baby its starting to get cold outside! When it gets cold outside our clinic starts to smell like Moxabustion! Moxa is used in Chinese Medicine to warm muscles, joints and even internally warm the body ( think of cold hands/ feet, fatigue, thyroid issues for example). By gently applying Moxa over certain areas we can decrease pain and increases mobility to those tight painful joints, especially ones that get sore with cold, damp weather. Cold is nasty when it settles anywhere in the body. It can even settle into the uterus causing painful periods! So, if you come to the clinic and it has a funky smell you know Moxa season is here.

We have some construction happening in the suite beside us and although we are stoked to have some new neighbors we unfortunately have to deal with some construction sound. We are working with the landlords to try to come up with solutions and they have been fantastic in trying to sort it out for us so it doesn't disrupt your treatment. However, you may hear some construction sounds for the next few weeks until it is completed. Thank you to everyone who has been so understan...ding. Deanne, Cass and I have the best patients and you have been amazing throughout this. We appreciate you all so much Photo by @sofia_katherine

Got my acu without borders course ordered online. It is a course on ear acupuncture points for trauma. I dont know much about this type of acu other than what we learned in school but given the year we had and it looks like the year we are about to have ( hello covid mutations ) I think it's safe to say we could all use a little trauma acupuncture in our lives. What I do know is that it can help re-regulate the nervous system and cause a deep sense of peace after the treatments. Treatments can be an essential part of developing resilience and enable people to move on from the trauma they have experienced whether it is emotional, psychological or physical. I will keep ya posted on what I learn Photo of my clinic ear by Sofia Katherine Photography

**** New Blog Post*** Many women wait until their due date or when they are overdue to seek acupuncture for induction, however, a pre birth plan is showing to be much more effective. A pre birth plan starting at 36-37 weeks can increase the chances of experiencing a natural more efficient labour, shorter times in active labour and reduction in intervention rates, including medical inductions and caesarean sections.... Holistic approach to pain. Often when you visit an acupuncturist you will be asked questions about the quality of your pain like "what does the pain feel like?" or "what makes the pain feel better or worse?" Different qualities of pain (sharp, dull, fixed etc..) can help determine what type of treatment plan you might need. We may also ask questions about sleep, degestion etc.. this can tell us if your body is imbalanced and that might be contributing to slower healing. ... An example of this is an imbalance in the body that may cause decreased nourishment of the tendons which can result in an increased susceptibility to injury and slower rehabilitation time. The holistic approach is to work on this imbalance while working on the local area of pain. Creating overall a better outcome with the treatment plan. We diagnose you in Chinese Medicine, identify the pattern and treat the root also. That is why I might put points in your legs for your arm pain. This is also why following your treatment plan, including amount and spacing of treatments, is crucial to your treatment success. In Chinese medicine, we diagnose in what is called excess and deficiency. One thing we can be deficient in is yin. We need balance of yin to yang in the body. If we are to yang (overworking, overthinking, always busy, not alot of sleep) then we can easily burn up our yin. This can result in the yin no longer hold down the yang so heat flares up and agitates the mind. It can cause hot flashes and anxiety among other disharmonies in the body. ... One tip to help improve your yin is to get sleep before midnight. This is the most restorative time to replenish yin. Always ask yourself. Have I been balancing work with rest, workouts with stretching and meditation, etc.. where can I use more yang and where could I use more yin in my life? Did you know that acupuncture needles are very thin?! About the size of a human hair. In my hand you will notice a blue tube. It's called a guide tube. We need that tube to help the needle break through the skin otherwise the needle will just bend when it makes contact. My husband complains that the guide tube is more uncomfortable then the needle ( treating family, amm I right?! Other practitioners know exactly what I'm talking about )... Most people are scared of needles, and rightfully so, if they are thinking of their childhoods when we used to get big scary needles in school (how did we survive the 80's ?Imagine schools giving vaccines and floride today ) This is not your 80's treatment people Photo Cred @sofia_katherine #acupuncturelove, #acupunctureingrandeprairie, #tothepointacupuncture, #themoreyouknow, #healingbyneedles, #omgthe80's, #80'sbaby, #sofiakathrinephotography,
