GLUTES AREN'T JUST FOR GIRLS!! Did you know your Glutes or butt muscles are the biggest and one of the most powerful muscles in the human body??? They help bring the leg and hip into extension (moving your leg behind you), stand upright, getting up from seating, running, jumping and way more! Can you imagine what would happen if they weren't functioning properly and you go for a 3 mile jog? If the,Glute Max is not firing, guess what! Another muscle is going to have to hel...p bring that leg and hip back into extension. If it is the TFL muscle, we might cramp in the side of the hip, if it's the Hamstrings we could get cramps or tears in the back of the leg, if it's the calves we might get knee, angle or foot pain. If it is our back doing the work, we get low back pain! TRY THIS..... next time you are going for a stroll or a jog, when your leg goes back, give a little squeeze to your glute. Nothing major, just a little activation and see how much of a difference that makes. I wont tell you what you'll notice, you tell me! :)

I have bitter sweet news this fall, I am headed back to my Steinbach location at Muscle Matters as of October 16. I have enjoyed getting to know great people around the area but work circumstances have me leaving St Pierre early and taking up a full time position in Steinbach. When you work with a foam roller, keep in mind the effect you want to have on your muscles. Use a slower pace and sink into painful spots for 30-60 seconds to release trigger points after activity or before bed and faster movements covering more surface area to stimulate blood flow and prime muscles before activity.

I have always been interested in how the body works so in 2007 I enrolled in Massage Therapy College, graduated in 2009 and have been learning ever since. My focus is on finding the cause of pain so we can find a plan to eliminate it or take steps towards managing it better. I am starting a new chapter in my career by setting up my clinic in North Strong Fitness located in St. Pierre and look forward to working with new and existing clients. Last week I had a client with pain in the front of her right hip and also starting in her left. She also has a C section scar from years ago which we found was turning off her core (abdominals) When the core is weak the body will find stability elsewhere and its not uncommon for the hips joints to compress in order to create the stability it needs. Her homework is to work on that scar tissue then gently activate her core muscle so her hips dont have to compensate. Your core needs to function properly so the rest of the body has the support it needs to move freely.

I had a client in last week who had mentioned she had a dentist appointment coming up for a tooth ache and now there were three more teeth starting to hurt as well when she bit on seeds or something hard. I worked on the muscles of the jaw and this week she reports no more Tooth pain and cancelled her dentist appt. Sometimes the powerful muscles of the jaw have trigger points that can feel just like a tooth ache! Happy client!!
