A new program in the pipeline for first-time home buyers with exact details to follow this fall. The key question which is currently left unanswered is how the 10% repayment is calculated. If the value of the home goes up, will homeowners be paying back CMHC 10% of the new market value?
Recently we have come across a lot of misinformation on what a notary can and cannot do (yes, we provide legal advice!). In order to help clarify, we have added a new FAQ section to our website. We hope this will dispel some common myths and allow clients to make informed decisions regarding their legal matters. For a more detailed listing of what services we provide, please refer to the "services" section of our website. https://kbnotary.ca/faq

The provincial government introduced Bill 52 on Nov. 5, 2018 and the changes officially took effect on Feb. 22. According to the government, the regulations will enhance food security and encourage farming on ALR land. A key change includes reducing the size of homes built on ALR land. Primary residences are now restricted to less than 500 square metres or roughly 5,400 square feet under the new law. People who had permits in place to build a larger home before Feb. 22 can still go ahead as long as construction begins by Nov. 5, 2019.
A friendly reminder to submit your declarations for the Speculation Tax by March 31, 2019. It takes only a few minutes online via https://www2.gov.bc.ca//proper/speculation-and-vacancy-tax . Just click on the Declare Now icon on the right hand side. You will need the letter that was mailed to your property to input the codes, your date of birth and SIN.
It will be a great Monday for someone out there!
Our phone service is currently down and we are working on resolving the issue as quickly as possible. In the interim, please contact us via email at [email protected]. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
