We're already past the half way point of our #backtoschookbooks series - it's day 5! Topic: Friendships The friendships that we make at any age are so important. Little ones can easily be nervous about making new friends at school. ... Here we go with day 4 of the #backtoschoolbooks series. Topic: Perseverance One of my favorite ways of describing this skill is try it and stick with it. Such an important and easy to remember message to pass on to little ones. ... @oliverjeffers is one of my family's favorite authors. In #howtocatchastar, the main character keeps trying to find ways to catch a star. It's due in part to his #perseverance that he does get a star in the end! #Repost thanks to @claraficayshun (@get_repost)

Happy weekend! It’s Day 3 of the #backtoschoolbooks series. Topic: Resilience While resilience is important in adulthood (prime example is @sherylsandberg & #adamgrant recent book, #optionb) it’s also a needed skill in childhood. Being able to deal with setbacks or tackle challenging problems is helpful for children when they face potentially stressful situations, like starting school or making friends on the playground. ... Beautiful Oops by @barneysaltzberg shows readers that it’s ok to make a mistake because with a little creativity they can lead to something positive. So instead of stopping when a mistake is make one can tackle the issue and turn it into something else. This book is filled with pop-ups, lift the flaps and lots of other surprises. It was a hit with a toddler and equally interesting for a kindergartner. What books have you come across that promote resilience? #Repost thanks to @in_my_art_classroom (@get_repost)

Emotion regulation helps children learn how to express how they are feeling and also to simply be with their emotions. It’s really about management of all the complicated feelings that are evoked - frustration, impatience, anger, fear - when faced with something new.like going back to school! Today’s book, The Day My Mom Came to Kindergarten by #maureenfergus and @mikelowerystudio, provides a fun way to explore emotion regulation. When a mom joins her daughter in kindergarten she seems to have forgotten how to follow the rules. The young girls needs to learn how to handle her frustrations and show her mom the way. Here we go - Day 1 our #backtoschoolbooks series! Topic: Learning Environment A learning environment, like a classroom, has a profound impact on kids. When the classroom is a space that kids feel good and supported in, they learn better. ... As shared by Joan Young in her book Encouragement in the classroom, Creating a positive environment produces a powerful ripple effect that continually enhances learning: when students can see the humor in their mistakes, celebrate their successes, and feel empowered as change agents, they will actively engage in learning and, consequently, learn more effectively. Today’s book will help your little one explore the learning environment in school before the start school! Follow the Line to School by @lauraljungkvist invites you to explore all parts of a school - all the different learning environments that exist - while asking questions along the way. This book could be great for both new students and returning ones. Just the right thing to get used to and excited about heading back to a great learning environment! #kidslit #kidsbookstagram #bookstagram #kidsbook #kidsbooks #raisingareader #bibliophile #childrensbook #kidlit #kidsofinstagram #booksforkids #mindfulparenting #kidlitart #Repost thanks to @hereweeread (@get_repost)
