The Kimberley RCMP shared today that they believe the fire in the top lift control station of the Northstar Quad Chair in the early morning hours of December 18th, which made the lift inoperable, to be arson and deliberately set. This will be a difficult and painful fact to comprehend and process for Kimberley Alpine Resort skiers and riders, for others in our community, for our resort team, and for skiers and riders throughout the ski industry. We appreciate the work that ...Continue reading

Repost from b_kootswild via Instagram Wondering what it’s like to experience riding a CAT to the top of a ski hill?! Well for the first time ever I had the chance @kimberleyalpineresort !! ... The team has been working so hard after a fire destroyed our main chair lift at the beginning of the season. This ride up is one option to still enjoy our incredible hill - especially after we’ve been getting so much snow!! Huge thanks to everyone for making this season one to remember. I’ve never had the chance to be in a CAT - so this day was pretty special. Reserve your seat in the snowcat shuttle daily at 6pm for the following day. https://www.eventbrite.ca/o/kimberley-alpine-resort-3945778 #mykimberley

For some it's a goal & for some a passion to slide on snow. Skiing 100+ days is no easy task, it takes commitment & dedication. There is no picking and choosing days with only perfect hero groomers, sunshine or new snow. ... Congrats to those who conquered the 100 + day season. #mykimberley

We hope you had a great season skiing and riding at Kimberley Alpine Resort this year. It has certainly been one to remember! We appreciate the work you've all done to follow the COVID-19 protocols we had in place this winter. We know it hasn't been easy, but these precautions seem to have worked, and we are very pleased to have been able to continue to operate to the end of the ski season. And with the addition of a bonus week at the end! We had some good powder days earlier... on, and we experienced an extended period of some of the best spring skiing we've had in recent memory. Average usage on season passes was up this winter, indicating that many of you were able to get out more often than in prior years to enjoy these days. We were happy to see our locals and season passholders skiing more as we strongly believe that getting out on the mountain with your family and close friends is one of the best things you can do in a pandemic world. We hope you have a safe and relaxing summer, and look forward to having you back up at the resort again next winter, hopefully in a 'back-to-normal' type year. This group of friends, who have been skiing our mountain together for thirty-plus years, are taking over Instagram stories tomorrow. Their challenge - to ski every single run, on our hill, in one season. What started as a small challenge among girlfriends, brought a huge amount of joy to their season and turned out to be the perfect opportunity to ski runs they had never attempted and have the best laughs! This is something you don't want to miss! Head on over to Kimberley... Alpine Resort Instagram tomorrow and follow the locals. #mykimberley

Great skiing out there today! We thank everyone for their patience as we work through the fix on the NS Quad. This is to confirm that we will continue to run the Easter and Tamarack Chairs plus the base area beginner lifts through the week until we can get the Quad fixed. Also KAR Season Pass holders and valid lift ticket holders booked for the days of our Quad outage will continue to be able to ski for free at our sister RCR resorts. The BBQ will be operating at the top ...of the Easter Chair again tomorrow. F&B in the base will not be running through the week. Photo from this morning: Powder Matt

Kimberley Alpine Resort 16.12.2020

Good morning skiers and riders. Good to see the fresh snow out there. For those who are not aware of our challenge with the NS Quad Chair please see our prior post or website. The beginner area lifts, and the backside lifts will be running today, but the Quad will not be. To access the powder we will be allowing people to skin or hike up the Ridgeway Road to get to the backside lifts. Please be aware that the UPPER PARKING LOT WILL FILL UP QUICKLY. Your best plan is ...to PARK IN THE LOWER BASE AREA LOTS and then ride up the T-Bar and then walk through our maintenance yard over to the start of the Ridgeway Road, or walk up Northstar Trail and up the skier bridge and then over to Ridgeway. Do not park on the road. Covid protocols we be in full force: Give people 2m distance at all times, and we need to see masks on people if they are in proximity with others while on the slopes and at all times in line-ups or in the base area. Ridgeway will be closed to down traffic to minimize skier interactions. The way back to the front side will be by Hoot's Way. Be careful while going up or down the skier's bridge. Boundary will be open as per usual for uphill traffic. There may a be delay on opening the Easter Chair as we conduct avalanche control procedures. Tamarack will not be affected by this. Please be patient and kind with others out there and give them distance as not everyone will be going the same speed, or have the same equipment or skill level. Passes and lift ticket will be required. Discounted lift tickets are available at the ticket office. If you have any questions please call Guest Services at 250-427-4881.

Unfortunately we've run into a problem with the Northstar Quad Chair. We had a full rebuild done on our gearbox less than two years ago, but we recently heard a strange noise coming out of it, so we stopped loading public this afternoon, our lift maintenance team investigated, and they found that we had a bearing failure in the gearbox. We therefore had to make the difficult decision to shut the chair down to prevent further damage. We have our team on this and industry expe...rts are inbound to help us, but unfortunately this means that we will not be able to run the Northstar Quad Chair until it gets fixed. Our current best estimate is that this may take a week or more to get repaired. We understand this will be very challenging for many people living in and visiting the community, but please know we are already doing our best to get it up running safely as soon as possible. Going forward our plan is to get people skiing and riding in any way we can. This includes: - We expect some snow tonight and are planning to keep running the Easter and Tamarack Chairs tomorrow for anybody who is interested in skinning or walking up the Ridgeway Road. We ask that people only skin up Boundary and/or Ridgeway, not elsewhere on the mountain, so that we are not mixing up and down traffic. We estimate that it is about 300 m up from the maintenance yard to where you can slide down to the Tamarack base. We hope to have a BBQ going at the top of the Easter Chair. - The Owl T-Bar and Magic Carpet will be running regular hours tomorrow. - Lift tickets will be sold at a reduced rate. - Skiing/riding will be free for season pass holders and KAR lift ticket holders at KAR's sister RCR resorts of Fernie, Kicking Horse, and Nakiska until the NS Quad starts running again. Please go straight to lift with your KAR season pass. KAR lift ticket holders please go to the ticket window to exchange your ticket before going to the lift line. Please contact Guest Services with any ticket questions you might have, including if you have a pre-purchased ticket for any of the days affected by this shut down. 250-427-4881 Once again we apologize for this. Hopefully we will see you up on the backside, or at one of our sister resorts tomorrow. Please check back here for regular updates.

Kimberley Alpine Resort 02.12.2020

Due to unscheduled maintenance on the North Star Exress Quad Chair, the Quad chair will not be running for the rest of day and no Night Skiing tonight. Please check back for more updates.
