The Kingston Townsmen Chorus 28.05.2021

It's that day again- Monday! The dreaded first day of the week (for many) that is often accompanied by a shock to the system as we once again try to get used to our hectic professional and school lives. But unlike many, Monday also marks a day of excitement and enjoyment for our chorus members that helps make everything all worth it- it's practice night! Even through the stresses and chaos of the global pandemic- we still continue to meet online in weekly virtual online Zoom sessions - learning from special guest artists and music educators, analyzing and discussing incredible performances, working on repertoire, showcasing individual member talent... and enjoying each other's company. Interested in joining us for a night to see what we're all about? Why not drop us a line!

Last night, some of our chorus members had a blast in our Monday night virtual meeting- partying, telling jokes and singing/performing some of our more "Irish-y" repertoire. While it was fun- we are also looking forward to the not-so-distant future- when we can sing together again and enjoy each other's company in person.

Where there's a will, there's a way! While we can't sing in person, many of us have taken the opportunity over the last 7 months to perform in numerous Virtual Choir videos, on our own from the comfort of our homes. One such project we've been working hard on lately with the Limestone City Voices is a special holiday collaboration! We're excited to release the finished product to you in the coming weeks ahead! (and of course, are also REALLY looking forward to when we can meet and perform for you once the pandemic is over.) Stay tuned to this page for future updates!

3...2...1.... HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The Kingston Townsmen Chorus 07.02.2021

New Year's Eve 2019- the end of a decade.. and the start of a new. Wow. The past 10 years for the chorus have been nothing short of a complete transformation. We entered this decade in a period of decline and uncertainty.. as such was the case with so many other groups like ours. Now, as of midnight tonight.... we leave it behind stronger than ever before, constantly growing, improving and evolving with a focus on musical excellence and fun. Over the years, we've had the pr...ivilege of being directed, coached and mentored by some amazing people- such as the late Paul Tamblyn, Brian Kerr, Darrell Bryan, Andrew Carolan, Mo Field, Amelia Charnock, Kristen Stevens, and Vanessa Patterson (Our current director). We gained a new assistant director (James Essex-McIntyre). We've won 5 regional level awards and, in 2018- we were *second place* in Ontario District's Spring convention. We've participated in choral music festivals in addition to our regular performance opportunities. We've fundamentally changed the way we sing and look at music, with our chorus members' infectious enthusiasm and ambition (and sometimes patience) being the driving force behind it all. We're no longer the Townsmen as we were.... we're now Townsmen 2.0! Bring it on, 2020- we're excited as to what the future may hold!

Even in troubling times such as these, music can lift our spirits, enrich and unify us in very unique ways. Throughout the pandemic, we've been steadily at work in the background, working on our repertoire, developing our vocal skills and musical knowledge.... and participating in fun projects like this! Several of our members will be participating in this project, including all four members of Perpetual Emotion Quartet. And you can, too!

The chorus had a great time last night working on one of the songs we'll be bringing with us to contest in April. We're looking forward to our coaching session this weekend with Mo Field - Vocal Performance Coach! Also: Congratulations to our newest members to pass their auditions: Keltie (Bass) and Larry (Lead)- Great job, gents!

This morning, Perpetual Emotion Quartet appeared on Global Kingston's morning show to sing, talk about their Singing Valentines initiative, and to also discuss some of the great changes we've undergone over the past 5 years. If you're still in the market for something to get your special someone- don't miss out! Give these gents a call or message today!

Wow, what a weekend! The past two days have been intensive, but very rewarding and fun. Thanks so much to Mo Field - Vocal Performance Coach for braving the elements to come work with us - until the next time! We would also be remiss to not mention that two of our members not only attended the coaching sessions, but also were volunteers for Saturday evening's bingo game as well- now that's dedication!. As always, we're thankful for the support Play Gaming & Entertainment has given, as it has helped enable us to have magical moments such as these.

Happy Friday, Everyone! This weekend is especially exciting for us... because it's COACHING TIME! Today and tomorrow we'll be whipping the two songs we'll be performing for Ontario District - Barbershop Harmony Society's Spring Convention into shape, under the masterful, and talented instruction of Mo Field - Vocal Performance Coach . We can't wait to get started! #YGK
