Fraud Alerts! Kitimat RCMP is still receiving many calls about frauds taking place where the caller is pretending to be a co-worker, boss, bank or others and throughout the call asking for gift cards for iTunes, Google Play etc to help them. Multiple people have lost $1000 or more to scams like this. If anyone tries to ask you to buy gift cards by calling you or emailing, or for any other personal information (even just if they say they want to verify things) do not take action before hanging up and calling your actual bank, boss, friend etc to verify. If they dont know anything about it, you know it is not legitimate! Please talk to your loved ones to help protect innocent people from becoming victims of fraud. Education is key to fraud prevention.

Kitimat RCMP have received many calls regarding fraudulent activity in the past few weeks. The fraudulent callers have been demanding personal information such as account numbers or social insurance numbers, asking people to "confirm" these numbers or threatening to arrest individuals. Phone numbers are being "spoofed" to appear as it is a local caller. If you are unsure if the caller is legitimate, call your local RCMP, as they will easily be able to tell if a police officer has been trying to reach you. Please remember not to give out personal details over the phone and that no one will threaten to arrest or yell at you on the phone for any legitimate reason. Visit the anti-fraud centre website linked below for more ways to protect yourself from fraud.
