GYM BROS ARE KILLING YOUR GAINS Don't get me wrong, I LOVE a good lifting buddy. They can: Inspire you ... Hold you accountable Energize you Make it more fun BUT, there's one crucial error people who lift together make... You tend to wing it. Every day in the gym is a new adventure. You'll do what you're feeling more so than sticking to a schedule. Why? Because when you're with your buddy you want to have fun! You want to do a workout you're both going to enjoy Unfortunately that comes at the cost of consistency. If you don't stick to a routine long enough you'll never get the results you want Not too mention when you're together you ALWAYS want to go for PRs which you're RARELY ready for. I'm totally guilty of this too So HOW can you have a lifting buddy and still make the gains you want? When you see this simple question, you probably think one word... "GAINS" I want to get jacked ... I want to make huge lifts Etc. Whether you are aware of it or not, there is another reason... Deep within us we have internal motivators that drive us on a subconscious level. These are often reasons instilled from past experiences in life. While there's nothing wrong with lifting for superficial reasons (like looking better), it's important to look within ourselves and really ask ourselves "WHY?" Yes, that is me with Ronald McDonald My first real job was working at McDonald's. Something people always ask me is did I ever get sick of eating the food there? My answer? No. Never. McDonald's always tastes amazing to me. Every time. ... That being said, when I went through my first weight loss and lost 50 lbs it was when I worked at McDonald's. All the food, half price. Nearly free fast food at my disposal all the time. How did I not manage to screw up my fat loss catastrophically?! I learned these two key lessons that kept me on track: 1. Allow myself fast food under the right circumstances 2. Have the willpower to say "NO" when it's not one of those circumstances Am I against fast food? Absolutely not. I love it. I just learn to live in a balance between making healthy choices and the occasional unhealthy choice. This allows me to be stick to the plan and treat myself along the way To deny yourself the luxuries of junk food forever, kind of sucks. Let's be honest.
