Month Two Update This month Christine has been moved to the Rehabilitation Ward (about mid-month)! She is sitting up on her own, and slowly starting to use her right side. She is well enough to be brought outside to visit! Her kids were finally able to see their mom after 5 weeks. We were overjoyed to have this small window of opportunity to visit outside with Christine Dorohoy after her therapy sessions!... Christine’s memory isn’t quite there yet but her speech has improved significantly this month. September 7th, Christine and Tylan celebrated their 1st year anniversary. Chris is very determined to get out of the hospital and is working very hard in her therapy sessions. Towards the end of the month she is able to stand on her own for about 10 seconds and walk a few feet, assisted. Unfortunately towards the end of the month Christine ended up spraining her ankle, which has delayed her progress in strengthening her legs in order to walk. We are just grateful she didn’t end up hurting her head. As of last week, the hospital has gone on lock down because of the increase in covid cases. Please keep Christine in your thoughts/prayers/hearts as she is very upset about not having Tylan there with her everyday for a minimum of 2 weeks time. We understand the reasoning for this decision but we are heart broken that she will be alone for that period of time and worry about her mental and physical healing. We are grateful that we can still FaceTime her and that she has been able to text us to keep in communication.

Week Four / One Month Update This week Christine took some big steps on her road to recovery! Her tracheotomy was removed, only her feeding tube remained hooked up, other than that she has been free of tubes! ... This week Christine has been more aware of her surroundings and is even able to whisper some words to try and communicate with Tylan and the nurses. Everyday we see small improvements in Christine. She has a wheelchair now that she sits in for awhile each day that will help strengthen her neck and back as well as assist in strengthening her lungs and help re-learn to swallow. She is starting to move her right side a bit. As of August 28th Christine had pulled her feeding tube out and since she was booked for an X-Ray video to see how her swallowing was doing, they decided to leave it out and see if she can eat. So far she can eat 50% of her meal, if they can get her to 75%, they can keep the feeding tube out! We thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your continued support, your love and your thoughts.

Week 3 update on my daughter Week Three Update This week the doctors took out Christine’s drainage tube and her staples were removed (around 100). She developed a fever this week which the doctors have attributed to the injury. A CT scan showed that she had a blood clot in her lungs. ... Christine is more awake but is still not responding to verbal commands. She has started physio and occupational therapy this week. As of August 21st we are happy to say that Christine is out of ICU. She is starting to track people and she is moving her head towards a voice. She holds eye contact for about 10 seconds and has even tried to mouth some words.

Week Two Update on my daughter This week we saw a few baby step improvements with Christine. The doctors finally got her ICP stable. (She did end up with pneumonia and influenza this week which is usual with having the tube to breathe). ... Her CT scan this week showed no change (since her last one regarding overall swelling and bleeding) and her EEG showed no seizures. Towards the end of the week the doctors slowly took Christine off her paralytic medicines as well as decreased her sedation and were able to perform some sensory assessments which the doctors were happy the progress with even though she didn’t respond to everything. Her brain is functioning with regulating her body. Thursday, Christine had a tracheotomy done as the ventilator tube was putting pressure on her tongue and they were worried about infection. As of August 14 Christine was not needing the tracheotomy as she could breathe on her own (they would just use it at night to help her breathe while they sedate her in the nights to help her rest). She is also moving both arms.
