Hard to predict the future - but demand or no demand, we think environmental education is important. That grads may have their pick of interesting jobs, well, that's icing on the cake.
March 8th is International Women's Day. Here's a quick sketch of the career of one of the pioneers of environmental science.
We're very proud to learn that the person piloting this project for CMBC is EPT grad Donna Bartel, environmental sustainability manager for CMBC. Kudos!
Today is World Wetlands Day! Swamps, bogs, fens, marshes, call them as you like: they purify water, they prevent floods, they also provide habitats for unique critters of all sorts, helping with biodiversity preservation. https://www.worldwetlandsday.org/
Save the date: Tuesday November 3rd at 6pm. This is when EPT will be hosting its next information session. Stay tuned for details - or register directly at https://www.kpu.ca//environmental-protection-technology-in
As a graduate of the EPT program you just never know where your career path may take you. Here EPT graduate Lori Schlechtleitner discusses monitoring for invasive crab species. https://www.mapleridgenews.com//photos-one-of-worst-inva/
Some great news: Metro Vancouver has voted to upgrade the Iona wastewater treatment plant to tertiary standard (removing N and P) as opposed to secondary. The Georgia Straight Alliance has a good explanation of why it is important to do so (and generated an awareness campaign - the current decision is to their credit). https://georgiastrait.org/issues/other-issues/sewage-2/
Metro Vancouver's future water needs will be met by Coquitlam Lake - an infrastructure project needed to address water availability in an era of changed climate. https://www.cbc.ca//metro-vancouver-to-invest-over-1-billi
Grads from the EPT program may get a bachelor's degree at Royal Roads University in Victoria. RRU is hosting a webinar about their BSc in Environmental Science, with faculty member Mickie Noble and grads Haley Friesen and Sara Hoang - both of whom are also EPT grads. Registration and further information below. https://www.royalroads.ca//webinar-bsc-environmental-scien
