I can't describe how grateful I am for both artsPlace and the Bow Valley community. I am so glad we moved here!

Photographing the details is one of my favourite parts of storytelling. Sometimes it’s hand drawn tattoos and AAC devices. Other times it’s helmet stickers and comfort items. There are so many details in each story. ... What do you notice? #storytellingphotography #allinthedetails Rocky Mountain Adaptive

It feels like just yesterday...

Have you heard of Rocky Mountain Adaptive? No?! Go check them out! Rocky Mountain Adpative’s vision is a world where there are no limits to adaptive mountain sport and recreation. ... And that’s what they are doing with Ella during her 4 week Ski and Ride Plus program Banff Sunshine Village. One ski boot at a time! Interested in supporting them? They have two fundraisers coming up EndurAbility and ForeAbility. And they always welcome new volunteers. https://rockymountainadaptive.com #nolimits #documentaryphotography

Most times when I photograph a family in hospital it is not a case of life and death. It may be just another day of many on the Cardiology Unit or in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. It may be celebrating going home. Or just something out of the ordinary to look forward to. The families I photograph often know the hospital well. It is a part of their story. It is a part of my story. ... This was not the case for Tucker’s family. Although none of us realized just how precarious his situation was when we first chatted, it became clear shortly after I photographed Tucker the first time that his family was going to have to say goodbye soon. And friends I can’t put into words just how important goodbyes are. Here is the link to the conversation I had with Mark and Megan about their son, Tucker. https://kristywolfephotography.com//i-was-there-too-tucke/ #TuckerStrong #goodbyesareimportant

I Was There Too is a series of conversations I am having with families and photographers documenting and normalizing life and death with medical complexities. In this episode...... 0:40 How we met - Treasure Life Beads connection 2:30 Different levels of comfort with photos 4:40 Tucker's Story 6:00 Pictures of the whole family - "I just want someone to take a picture of our whole family." 6:50 Saying goodbye - "I honestly don't even remember you being there." 7:30 The process of photos 8:00 Getting pictures printed and talking about Tucker with his brother 11:00 Final goodbyes - "It is the only picture we have of a family of 4 with no hoses and tubes." 13:00 #TuckerStrong t-shirts inspired the Wolfe Pack Warriors t-shirts 14:20 Collecting images - "Up until 3 days before he died we didn't think he was going to die. We were taking pictures just like any parent would." 16:50 Looking back and recognizing how sick Tucker was 18:40 How the meaning of pictures can change over time 21:15 Supports following the death of a child 25:00 Photo book of Facebook posts https://kristywolfephotography.com//i-was-there-too-tucke/

It's hard to believe we have been dealing with the pandemic for a year now. One year ago, I picked up my camera and offered photography sessions to folks in the Bow Valley as part of the #frontstepsproject I ended up photographing over 100 new friends and each of those people found a way to pay it forward with a random act of kindness or a donation to a local organization.... I am so grateful for the connections that have come about because of that project. Both with people in the Bow Valley as well as organizations. The Front Steps Project led to collaborations with artsPlace, the Canmore Museum, Bow Valley Immigration Partnership - BVIP, the Town of Canmore and the Town of Banff. I am so honoured to help tell stories for so many people in our community. If you would like to read more about the Stories of Resilience project head over to my linktree bio and click on Read this month’s newsletter The Meet the Locals project still has spaces available for photo sessions for foreign born and new Canadians. Message me if this is of interest. #storiesofresilience #thisis40selfportraitproject

Suicide Survivor: Darin Ladouceur Loved One: Wanda Ladouceur, Sister Memorial Object (not pictured): "Wanda's pots and pans remind me of the many meals at my sister’s place and the love she put into the things she did for the family. My sister Wanda was a shining light to those around her, even though she secretly hid the pain she was going through. This pain was experienced by all of us siblings because of growing up Indigenous in Canada. Sometimes we are so caught up in our... own circumstances, we fail to recognize what others are going through. Please be mindful of others pain, and be present and available, to those in need." . . . We need to talk about suicide. We need to share stories and educate our communities. Darin, thank you for sharing your story with us. Together with the Bow Valley Community Helpers program, funded through Alberta Health Services I am helping to tell the stories of suicide survivors in the Bow Valley, because this is my story as well. The goals of this photo project are to hold space for those left behind and to spark conversations about suicide. We need to ensure that every single person knows how to access the resources available. If you or anyone you know is feeling suicidal know there are people who care and can help. Please call 1-800-SUICIDE. To learn more about our Suicide Survivors Project or to participate please click on the link in my linktree bio. #suicidesurvivorstories

Friends, if you are looking for a great little breakout course to get you back in the swing of photography in people's homes, or just excited to do it again, this one is awesome! Lifestyle at Home perfectly describes the experience of working with her. Kelly has photographed my family in our home and she has mentored me on my own photography journey. Kelly and Jenny have done a phenomenal job of clearly laying out how to photograph families in their homes with a breakout that... applies to both new and experienced photographers. And as always the images speak for themselves! Lifestyle at Home includes everything from preparing clients for a session to troubleshooting the challenges that arise when photographing real life. I wish this breakout was around when I was starting my own business, and I will definitely be sharing it with the students I mentor. Want to learn more about Kelly? Check out my I Was There Too conversation with her. https://kristywolfephotography.com//i-was-there-too-kelly/

Rotary Club of Canmore invited me to talk to their members about storytelling photography and our story. It was so wonderful to connect with so many people who are interested in photography and supporting our local community.
