Why are we smiling so big this Friday morning? It’s because we’ve received our first dose of the Pfizer Vaccine! A special thank you goes out to all front line workers continuously fighting to keep us safe, even in challenging times we hope you smile and laugh a little everyday #igotinjectedsoyoudontgetinfected
We love hosting you!! Come any time!!
We love it when our residents take advantage of what our retirement community has to offer! Dorothy exercises in the pool every week!! It’s great for my hip, she says! We think she might like the bit of fame too. ... Send some encouragement to Dorothy in the comments, hit the Care reaction, and share for your friends to do the same! Thanks, Dorothy! We hope you continue to love it here! #ThisIsLiving #SeniorLiving #RetirementLiving
Look who stopped by for a visit! A very big thank you to Jelly Bean Entertainment and all the reptiles who spent the afternoon getting to know some of our residents.
Mrs. Tucker was proud to make her famous homemade mayonnaise at Aunt Bess’ Hobby Room. Intrigued by her excitement, Chef Nick wanted to learn all about it! So, he prepared all the ingredients, and she gave him a lesson from the school of hard knocks! We love it when we learn from our residents!... #ThisIsLiving
I stumbled across this on the Internet the other day I asked an elderly man once what it was like to be old and to know the majority of his life was behind him. He told me that he has been the same age his entire life. He said the voice inside of his head had never aged. He has always just been the same boy. His mother's son. He had always wondered when he would grow up and be an old man. He said he watched his body age and his faculties dull but the person he is inside never got tired. Never aged. Never changed. The next time you encounter an elderly person, look at them and know they are still a child, just as you are still a child and children will always need love, attention and purpose.

Halloween is serious business here at Lanes Retirement Living!
Stella, the RNC's new support dog, and her handler, Constable Krista Fagan, visited our St. John's retirement residence this week, and oh what fun we had! The Portuguese Water Dog made the rounds, visited with residents and staff, and even enjoyed a game of pool. Thanks so much for taking the time #YourRNC! It was great to see you both and we look forward to your next visit.... The Lanes Team

Our St. John's location was pleased to see Halloween visitors from Roncalli Elementary today. The kids from all grades paraded around the outside of the building in their costumes, as our residents, staff and family members watched the entertainment from the windows. Everyone was still talking about the visit well into the evening! Thanks again to Roncalli Elementary for being so thoughtful, and for taking the time. It was much appreciated. Happy Halloween everyone!... The Lanes Team
Thank you so much to Mrs. Keating's and Ms. Walsh's Grade 1 class at Roncalli Elementary who delivered beautifully carved pumpkins today to our Lanes Retirement Living location here in St. John's. Thank you Roncalli Elementary for being such great neighbours and for including us in your #kindnessmatters challenge. The Lanes Team
Our staff, residents and family members from across the province would like to wish Lanes Carbonear resident Hazel Yetman a very happy 100th birthday. Born November 18th, 1920 in Harbour Grace, this wonderful lady has seen it all. From the hardship of the Great Depression of 1920, to the Grand Bank earthquake and subsequent tsunami in 1929, life was not always easy. In 1932, Hazel was present when Amelia Earhart arrived in Harbour Grace; beginning her historic trans-Atlantic ...solo flight just hours later. During World War II, Hazel was knitting socks to support the war effort, and she was also witness to the Water Street fire that struck the town in 1944. Hazel is mother to six children, grandmother to 13, great-grandmother to 11, and great-great-grandmother to five. Her kindness and strength are an inspiration to her family, and the residents and staff at Lanes, and she is a joy to know and to spend time with. Celebrations for Hazel's special day this year will be more subdued due to current COVID-19 restrictions. Staff and residents will gather inside the building, while members of Hazel's family gather outside. To help make this day even more memorable, we are asking each of you to send Hazel some birthday cheer and good wishes via this post, and to like and share this page with others you know. Happy birthday Hazel. Enjoy your special day! You've certainly earned it. The Lanes Team

It's hard to believe that it has been 40 years since Terry Fox first began his Marathon of Hope in support of cancer research, setting out from St. John's, Newfoundland, hoping to raise $1 from each of Canada's 24 million people. Since 1981, the annual Terry Fox Run has raised more than $750 million dollars in Terry's name, with participation in over 60 countries. Each year, Lanes Retirement Living is pleased to do our part, working with The Terry Fox Foundation, our resident...s, families, and staff, to raise money for such a worthwhile cause. This year, we are proud of the $2,745 raised by our team, and we would like to thank everyone for their contribution to this effort. Especially our Botwood and Port Saunders locations who went above and beyond. Thank you! And congratulations to you Terry, on your 40th anniversary. The Lanes Team #TerryFox #LanesGivesBack

Lanes Retirement Living is pleased to announce the winner of our first annual Grandparents Day contest. Hilda Miville is the winner of a $100 Apple gift card, with Lanes donating an additional $100 to SeniorsNL on Hilda’s behalf. Here is Hilda’s story (one that many of us can relate to) and photo submission: "My grandparents (Elizabeth and Stephen Meade) were the most dedicated, loving, and resilient couple I have ever known.... My grandfather was a hard working fisherman, who later took a job with the Canadian National Railroad and remained there until his retirement. He was a strict father but turned into a marshmallow around his grandchildren. My fondest memory with him is when he’d share his meal of salt fish with me, advising me to first go get a tall glass of cold water because he knew I was going to need it. He always had Purity Jam Jams and Peppermint Nobs to share, also. I remember he took me with him on a berry picking excursion in his motorboat. I was seasick and I remember him holding me over the edge of the boat so I could throw up. I was just hanging there, but I trusted him completely to keep me safe. He always had my back. He was a man of honesty and conviction and one whom I will never forget. My beautiful grandmother bore and raised 16 children, along with numerous grandchildren and more besides. She was a woman of deep faith, who always said her prayers and belief in God is what got her through each day. She was a kind, gentle and oh so loving soul, with the uncanny ability to make each person feel like they were the most important. She suffered many hardships raising her children, but they were never without food or clothing. When she was having one baby, she couldn’t wait to have another. She was a remarkable, amazing woman and one that I am honoured to call my grandmother. These outstanding people have left footprints on my heart and left a beautiful legacy of unconditional love for those left behind." Thank you Hilda. And congratulations. Zelma is another recent arrival at our new mixed-use retirement community in St. John’s. In need of respite care following surgery, Zelma looked to the Lanes team of professionals to help manage her recovery. Zelma’s family was involved throughout her stay with Lanes, visiting regularly to spend some quality time, while leaving the rehabilitation and day-to-day care to the experts. Zelma dropped by the front desk to say goodbye this morning. Her stay with us was brief, but sh...e was already part of the family. Good luck with everything Zelma. We miss you already.
